Kobuleti entertainment. Holidays on the Black Sea in Georgia: Kobuleti

The resort is located in Georgian Autonomous Republic Adjara, on the Black Sea coast. It is the center of Kobuleti district. Kobuleti is a small city, with a population of about 19 thousand people. The region is connected to the civilized world by rail and road.

During the USSR had the status of one of the best Soviet resorts on the Black Sea. During these best years for the resort, many buildings were built here. sanatoriums And holiday homes. Most of them belonged to the military department. The infrastructure of the resort has been well preserved, but the events of the recent history of Georgia, and especially Adjara, have frightened away potential guests of the resort. Compared to the last decades of the last century, the flow of tourists arriving in holiday in Kobuleti, decreased by several orders of magnitude. (To be fair, it is worth noting that in last years things in the local tourism industry have improved, and resort hotels the polyphony of Armenian, Azerbaijani, Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian languages began to ring again).

Holidays in Kobuleti today is a choice from several sanatoriums(including two children), holiday homes, boarding houses And hotels. Tourists are attracted here by the healing subtropical climate, excellent beach, and exotic nature. In the pine and cedar groves, in the shady city alleys, you can meet not only idle vacationers, but also people who have chosen Kobuleti for recovery. Resort sanatoriums specialize in the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, pulmonary diseases and nervous system disorders.

The Kobuleti resort is young again, or rather, rejuvenating: in recent years, restoration and repair work has been actively carried out here in old buildings, new hotels and boarding houses are being built. This is facilitated by the Georgian government’s understanding of the tourism importance of the region: in October 2010, the country’s Parliament adopted the bill “ About the free tourist zone of Kobuleti" This law partially exempts investors who invest in infrastructure development from taxes (the allocated area is 11.4 hectares). According to this law, a person who has invested at least 1 million lari in the construction of hotels is exempt from property and profit taxes for 15 years. The state will also not remain aloof from the “big construction”: the laying of water supply, gas pipelines, electricity and roads will be carried out at its expense.

Moving away from the coast, you will be surprised to find the houses of local villages scattered across the hills. Between them, icy mountain rivers with waterfalls and bends flow to the sea. In these picturesque places there are small outdoor restaurants. They may look different, but they are all connected by the warmth with which you will be served by an amateur “chef”. A typical representative of such an “institution” looks like this - a wooden flooring thrown from one bank to the other, with tables and chairs right on it. Nearby, between the stones, there is a barbecue where barbecue is being prepared to the sound of the river. crystal air, fresh vegetables, mountain river, cold wine and hot meat - the sensations are unforgettable.

Brief history of Kobuleti

Holidays in Kobuleti from a historical point of view, this is mental communication with the spirit of the past, peacefully dormant in the surrounding area... The territory of modern Kobuleti was inhabited by Gurians since time immemorial. In the gorge of the Kintrish River, scientists have discovered traces of human activity from the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. In the Kobuleti peat bogs, archaeologists discovered the secret of the oldest human settlement, dating back to the 5th-3rd millennia BC. Excavations confirm the existence of an ancient city on the site of today, closely connected by economic and cultural ties with other regions of the Black Sea region. When did these territories go to Russian Empire, the best plots of land began to be distributed to the generals and the area received the name “General’s”. Soon the town was overgrown with new houses and dachas.

In 1904, the Batumi Doctors Society contributed to the opening of a climate station in Kobuleti. This year can be considered the year the resort was born. In 1911, the first small private sanatorium... When Adjara became part of a large Soviet country, work began to transform Kobuleti into a full-fledged resort. Sanatoriums, cultural and educational institutions, and rest homes were built. Kobuleti becomes the regional center of a large agricultural part of Adjara. The events of the end of the last century had a negative impact on the life of the resort, but, as mentioned above, the authorities are taking serious steps to revive it.

Listening to the memories of our compatriots about their holiday in Kobuleti, and indeed about their holiday in Georgia, you are pleased to note the flow of positive intonations. Georgia is trying its best to return vacationers to its resorts, and it is succeeding quite well: everyone is greeted as a dear guest, they help if any questions arise and are almost led around the country by the hand... Well, if you are led along the main street of Kobuleti, then you will have to walk for a long time: this is one of the longest streets former USSR. Imagine: fourteen kilometers south, Georgian holiday on the Black Sea! Would you like to take a walk around ?

It is located along the Black Sea coast. Tourists are primarily attracted by the peace and tranquility.

How beach resort, Kobuleti was known back in the last century. Over the years it was built a large number of entertainment establishments, sanatoriums and hospitals. The beaches of this small town attract a large number of tourists, as do the sunny resorts of Batumi. More and more travelers come here every year.

People come to the city on vacation, both with friends and families. Many choose the resorts of this city in order to cure diseases associated with musculoskeletal system, joints and others. What to see in Kobuleti and the surrounding area?

Kobuleti is a fairly small Georgian town, but nevertheless there is something to see there.
Peter's Fortress. The attraction consists of a whole complex of structures. Namely, this includes the Petra-Tsikhe citadel and a small number of ancient settlements. Most likely, the fortress was built in the Middle Ages.

Museum "Georgia in Miniature". It is a park located near the city. In almost an hour here you can explore all the monuments of Georgia in miniature.

Kintrishi Natural Park. This is the place where you can see a lot of rare species plants, animals and even relict forests. There are also several ancient temples in the park. This is what attracts many tourists.

A resort with a century-old history. Yes, it’s a centuries-old one, since Kobuleti has been operating as a resort since 1911. At that time, in this wonderful city, which is located on the Black Sea coast, the first, very small private sanatorium was opened. This is not surprising, since the climatic conditions in Kobuleti are perfectly conducive to a health-improving holiday. Further, interest in it continues to grow, but still, as a resort with developed infrastructure, it begins to operate only closer to the present day. In general, Kobuleti is a city with a very interesting history, so if you get tired of passive relaxation, then be sure to visit its interesting places. Here, about interesting places, we'll talk to you.

Kobuleti Beach. Since this is a resort town, you should start your excursion from the beach. The size of the beach is simply huge, as its length is ten kilometers. This beach became famous and earned its popularity not only due to its size, but primarily due to the very small pebbles and crystal clean water. Of course, the pebbles are not small enough everywhere, mainly on those beaches adjacent to sanatoriums. On city beaches, pebbles can be the size of an egg, but in the most remote areas, they can look like cobblestones. By the way, the Kobuleti embankment is considered healing, especially in the field of the cardiovascular system. Many people who suffer from heart disease come to Kobuleti just to walk along the embankment, breathing in the healing air.

Mtirala National Park. A huge protected area. In addition to the incredible lush vegetation, this reserve has mineral springs and healing springs, which are its main value. The park was opened not so long ago - on June 27, 2007, but has already gained stunning popularity, both among local residents, and among tourists. There is plenty of space to take a walk here, since the park’s territory occupies six thousand hectares of land. Look, just don’t get lost in this beauty. Why national park, has this name, it’s not difficult to guess, since on its territory there is Mount Mtirala, whose height is one and a half thousand meters. The name of the mountain translates as “crying”. Why exactly crying? Here, too, everything is simple, since almost all the time the mountain is surrounded by a haze of fog. While walking around the reserve, in addition to the healing springs, I advise you to visit a village with chestnut houses. Surprisingly, these chestnut houses have been standing safely for more than two hundred years.

Petra Fortress. Historical and archaeological complex, which is also called Petra-Tsikhisdziri, or Petra-Tsikhe. Includes ancient settlements and a citadel. On the territory of the complex, during archaeological research, cultural layers were identified that belong to different periods, ranging from the late Bronze Age to the late Middle Ages. This place was chosen by Emperor Justinian in the fourth century. By his order, on this very spot, a fortified city was founded, and a Cathedral. The Byzantine emperor did not choose this location by chance, since at that time there was a very advantageous strategic location at the intersection of trade routes, which connected the Eastern Black Sea region with Georgia, Persia, Byzantium and Armenia. The Byzantines and Persians were constantly at odds with each other and wars broke out again and again, so the fortress city constantly changed hands. In the first half of the thirteenth century, the fortress city was captured by the Turks. Bloody battles of the nineteenth century took place at the same place, during the Russian-Turkish War.

Amusement park "Tsitsinatela". The name of this heavenly place for children translates as “firefly”. A very childish name, but it is fully justified, because when evening comes, the park lights up with colorful lights, music plays and carefree fun reigns everywhere. The territory of the park has a very well-groomed appearance, there are benches everywhere. The park has many attractions and not only children, but also adults who want to remember their childhood can ride here. When visiting the park for the first time, take note that the ticket offices, which sell tickets for swings and carousels, that is, for all types of attractions, are located at the entrance to the park, and not at the attractions themselves. Therefore, stock up on tickets in advance so as not to add extra mileage later. Perhaps this inconvenience can be called the only drawback of the “Firefly”; everything else will not disappoint even the most demanding and experienced tourist.

Fasisi Stadium. A visit to the football arena will certainly please the male half. The field of this stadium is covered with natural grass, and its capacity is six thousand. football fans. The stadium is considered multifunctional, but mainly football matches are held in its arena.

Choloki River. In the nineteenth century, this river was water border between the Turkish state and the Russian Empire. In 1854, a battle between the Russian army and Turkish troops under the command of Selim Pasha took place here. In this battle, the Turks were defeated, but Ivan Andronnikov, who commanded a detachment of Russian soldiers, received the Order of A. Nevsky as a reward. The Turks could not endure such disappointment, and even to some extent shame, so they decided to attack again in 1918, but here they were completely defeated. Further times until the twenty-first century were calm for the river, but the calm stopped when a conflict broke out between Adjara and Georgia. The Adjarian president gave the order to destroy the road bridge that connected the banks of the Choloki River.

The ruins of the bridge remain in their place as a landmark, and at the same time as a reminder to descendants of what conflict situations with neighbors can lead to. To the right of the destroyed bridge, a new road bridge was built, which today safely connects Georgia with Kobuleti. Like this, like this interesting story, maybe by a silent river.

When I, as a travel agent, was studying seaside resorts in Georgia, I first heard such names - Kobuleti, Ureki.

At the same time, all the advice regarding these resorts usually boiled down to the following thought: only mothers with children who need a quiet and inexpensive holiday by the sea should be sent there. And all other tourists should definitely be sent to Batumi .

We were personally convinced that Batumi will please the eye and become a vivid impression for tourists. We share our conclusions about Batumi here:

After Batumi we planned to visit Kutaisi, and the road there goes through the resort villages of Kobuleti and Ureki. This is how I got the chance to form my own opinion about these places.

After elegant Batumi, other resorts will seem like remote villages to us...

Kobuleti: beach holidays, hotels, photos

We left Batumi after lunch. First we passed Makhinjauri district, which is also often recommended for budget holiday. Oh, no, I wouldn’t want to relax here - some endless houses, sheds, fences...

Kobuleti is the second most popular (and largest) city on the Black Sea coast of Georgia. The climate of this part of the coast can be called ideal: in winter there is practically no snow, and in summer there is no intense heat, thanks to the sea breeze.

It is believed that Kobuleti has a cleaner beach with small pebbles, and the sea is cleaner than in Batumi.

Well, I don’t know... When we went out to the beach to take a couple of photos, we were dumbfounded: I saw so much garbage on the beach only once in Adler, after a strong storm! There was no desire to even come closer to the sea.

Perhaps this picture on the beach in Kobuleti that day was also the result of a storm that occurred yesterday along the entire coast in the Batumi region. Or in the low season, no one bothers with cleaning the beach...

Again, according to guidebooks and reviews on the Internet, the holiday season in Kobuleti begins in May and ends in October. Those wishing to relax during the “velvet season” are recommended to come in November. All photos you see in this article were taken at the end of September. And as you probably noticed, there are no beachgoers in Kobuleti at this moment:

Only the floating craft lying on the shore reminded us that not long ago people swam in the sea here, sunbathed and had fun on water attractions...

By the way, don’t be fooled by the sand you see in this photo. You won’t see it closer to the water, and the entrance to the sea will also be pebbly. The pebbles on this part of the beach were perhaps the size of an egg, and in the most remote areas they may have the appearance of cobblestones.

No one swam in the sea with us, and only rare tourists walked along the embankment.

By the way, the Kobuleti embankment is considered healing, due to the fact that it is adjacent to a pine grove. Many people come to Kobuleti just to walk along the embankment, breathing in the healing air.

It cannot be said that it is well-equipped, but it has its own special atmosphere: renovated sections of the embankment, lined with restaurants and new hotel buildings, alternate with semi-abandoned areas.

Even in high season, life on the waterfront begins around 9 am and ends around 8 pm.

Where to stay in Kobuleti

IN Soviet time here, in Kobuleti, they began to build sanatoriums and rest houses. Their buildings, sticking out on the shore, among a pine grove, give Kobuleti a simple portrait resemblance to the coast of Pitsunda.

But this resort began to enjoy real popularity only in recent decades. Therefore, the vast majority of accommodation offers in Kobuleti are represented by mini-hotels, apartments and guest houses.

Good options for hotels are: Hotel Amigo I, Castello Mare Hotel&Wellness Resort, Kobuleti Pearl Of Sea Hotel & Spa, Okro Life.

And these apartments will be good option for families with children and groups of friends: Apartment Alex, Zuras Apartment Kobuleti, Inga's Apartment.

Infrastructure of Kobuleti

In general, there are only 2 streets in Kobuleti, they are located parallel to each other and stretch 9 km in length, parallel to the beach and the embankment. The central street, as expected, is given over to cafes, restaurants, bars, discos and other tourist establishments. Their level is very different: from European “with cappuccino” to dull Soviet with instant coffee.

To be honest, those quarters of Kobuleti that ran along the sea can, with a stretch, be called resort areas. Yes, I understand, it was the end of September, and one could not expect a beautiful resort atmosphere. but still, I would definitely get bored here even in the season...

But I also noticed - and this was a plus - that everywhere was very clean and tidy.

What to do in Kobuleti

There are mineral springs 2 kilometers from Kobuleti. Water from these sources is used for drinking treatment digestive system, for metabolic disorders, as well as for diseases of the excretory system, liver, etc.

The Tsitsinatela amusement park is also located outside the city and opens only in the evening.

For those who do not know how to lie stupidly on the beach for two weeks, the following information will be useful: near Kobuleti there are two beautiful natural parks - Mtirala National Park And Kintrish Nature Reserve . You can go there with full-day excursions.

History buffs will be interested in visiting Petra Fortress , which is located near the resort. Sometimes it is also called Petra-Tsikhe, it consists of a citadel and ancient settlements and is of historical and archaeological value.

Also, while relaxing in Kobuleti, you can get to know better Ureki resort . By and large, this is a very ordinary village. And the only thing worth looking at there is the black magnetic sand. About him beneficial features A lot has been written, if you are interested, read it on the Internet.

Our summary of Kobuleti

The Kobuleti resort has many advantages: it is quiet and calm, clean and beautiful, a wide beach and a clean (according to reviews) sea. Lots of greenery. And most importantly - reasonable prices.

The downside is that there is little variety of entertainment. But for some tourists this is not very important.

In general, your perception of Kobuleti will depend on your mood. There are people who like him (and when I wrote on my Instagram that they are unlikely to ever be faced with a choice - or Kobuleti, many asked me - why, why didn’t I like dear Kobuleti?)

But some (including me) are depressing about the atmosphere of a cheap resort: cheap hotels, cheap entertainment, cheap restaurants, cheap swimsuits and dull cheap family life.

By the way, when we had already left Kobuleti towards Kutaisi, we saw a fruit seller on the side of the road and decided to stop to find out the prices.

It turned out that everything is even more expensive than in Batumi... Well, who are they counting on here with such prices in the off-season?

In general, there are no comrades for the taste of color, as they say. I would be glad to know your opinion about Kobuleti. For sensible comments - plus 5 points to karma;-)

temporary test version

Kobuleti(ქობულეთი) - Adjarian city, regional center and resort, 9 kilometers of hotels, beaches and restaurants. The main competitor of Batumi, its budget twin. Almost 20,000 people live here and additionally a huge number of tourists from Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. Here you can live and swim, from here you can go to the Mtirala and Kintrishi national parks or visit Batumi.

Story

The history of Kobuleti is not very rich. It is believed that back in the Stone Age there were some settlements here - somewhere in the neighboring swamps. In 1998, an Anglo-Georgian archaeological expedition began excavations at the settlement of Pichvnari, where traces of an ancient ancient Colchis city with an unknown name were found. The finds are now kept in the Batumi Archaeological Museum. Marketers tend to pull Pichvnari into the history of Kobuleti, although in essence these are completely different settlements.

In the Middle Ages, Gurians could live here, under the Turks almost nothing happened here, and during the era of the Russian Empire, something like a sanatorium for railway workers appeared here (1904). During Soviet times, Kobuleti received city status (in 1944), and huge sanatoriums and hotels began to be built north of Kobuleti. They were abandoned in the 1990s and then slowly, very slowly, they began to be revived. In October 2010, Kobuleti was declared a Free Economic Zone, where investors were exempted from taxes and land was given to them for free, subject to an investment of 1 million lari or more. But still, as early as 2016, there were still undeveloped areas in the city.

Modernity

Modern Kobuleti is a very long city. It has three main longitudinal streets: Embankment, the central street of David Agmashnebeli (=David the Builder) and Rustaveli Street. Rustaveli plays the role of a bypass, and Agmashenebeli is the main street of the town. Some hotels face directly onto the embankment, but most are on Agmashenebeli. The space between the embankment and Agmashenebeli is mainly parks and hotel areas. Houses in Agmashenebeli are numbered from No. 1 to approximately No. 800. The eastern side is even, so Kobuleti is 400 houses long and any place in the city can be assigned to a house number. This is convenient for organizing meetings.

Kobuleti can be divided into three zones. South Kobuleti- this is the space from the Kintrishi River approximately to house number 206 in Agmashenebeli. This is, in fact, the city itself with dense buildings and streets. Central Kobuleti- this space from house No. 206 to the abandoned hotel "Kolkheti" is a zone of Soviet sanatoriums. Northern Kobuleti- it's like the outskirts. There is a forest belt stretching along the sea, and private buildings along Agmashnebeli. Restaurants live in the forest belt.

The main part of the city is wandering. You can walk along it for 3-4 hours one way. It seems endless. In the southern part it is raised high above the beach level, and then gradually decreases and already in Central Kobuleti the ground level is level with the beach. Cafes, restaurants and hotels have been built on this embankment. Their level is very different, from European “with cappuccino” to dull Soviet with instant coffee. There are also stands offering excursions in poor Russian to various boring places in Adjara. The Russian language dominates on the Batumi embankment.

During the season, life on the embankment begins around 9 am and ends around 8 pm.

There are people who love Kobuleti. But some are depressing about the atmosphere of a cheap resort: cheap hotels, cheap entertainment, cheap restaurants, cheap swimsuits and dull family cheap life. Here they serve macaroni and cheese, buckwheat and cutlets. They play “The Best Day” and “Victory Day” here. It makes sense to go here with your family, but it makes little sense to go, for example, with girls.

Here you can rent a room with windows overlooking the sea for 20 GEL per person, and for 35 you can add breakfast (pasta with cutlets). And this is not bad if you grew up on Kirkorov and Petrosyan, or if you are an enlightened ascetic who is able to abstract from folk culture.

South Kobuleti

South Kobuleti is the southern 2 kilometers of the city. It starts from the Kintrishi River; 700 meters north of the river is the Kobuleti railway station, and next to it is the bus station. This is where all the minibuses come. The square in front of the station is an important logistics hub. To the south of it is the road to Batumi, to the north - to Ozurgeti, to the northwest - Agmashenebeli and Rustaveli streets. Everything west of the station and Agmashenebeli are schools, a hospital, and all sorts of city buildings. But where Agmashenebeli goes to the embankment, that’s where the zone of hotels and restaurants begins. The embankment begins here.

If you decide to live in a hotel in South Kobuleti, then keep in mind that you will actually live in the city. There will be city bustle, cars, dense buildings, shops and a lot of people.

Central Kobuleti

The most interesting thing in central Kobuleti is its park. In some places it is wild, but in others it is cultivated, decorated with flowers and playgrounds. This is a fairly large space for walking, and it houses the most important public catering establishment in Kobuleti - restaurant "Sunset". This is a beautiful restaurant with good design, and, most importantly, very large. There is even a stage for performers. Prices are generally the same as everywhere else in Kobuleti.

Kobuleti Park is interesting because of its pier, which is located on the beach right on the sea side. This is the same pier from which the “resort” scenes of the film “Love and Doves” (1981) begin. From this pier, Kuzyakin-Mikhailov falls into the sea, meets Gurchenko in the water and climbs out of the water back to the pier. The skyscraper of the Kolkheti Hotel is visible in the background.

The skyscraper of the Kolkheti Hotel can be called the symbolic end of Central Kobuleti. It was once the prestigious Intourist, but now it is a terrible monster that investors have not reached. They wanted to sell it back in 2004, but only recently it was bought (according to rumors) by Kakha Kaladze, a football player and Minister of Energy. It is difficult to say when this building was built - probably in the Brezhnev era, in the very years when the Pitsunda high-rise buildings and the Tbilisi "Adjaria" appeared. But they went through difficult times, but Kolkheti could not. Now the huge high-rise building and restaurant complex stand as a terrible monument to that era when the state was rich and the people were poor.

Northern Kobuleti

If you imagine Kobuleti as an animal, then Northern part- this is his tail. The entire space between the sea and Agmashenebeli is either a park or a wild forest. This is a place for picnics, tents and restaurants. There is almost no urban infrastructure here. If you need to go to a restaurant surrounded by pine trees and bushes without city noise and dust, this is the place for you. If you need to pitch a tent, this is the place for you.

This part of Kobuleti is the most neglected. Here stood the largest sanatoriums, which later fell into disrepair and to this day no one has been able to cultivate their territories. But just to the north of these Soviet monsters there were once wastelands, and now small decent hotels have appeared there. And it's quite nice there.
