The villain of Ariel. The real life of Disney villains

Villains in art always like more. It seems that there is nothing to sympathize with, but there is in them some kind of magnetic attraction, charisma and a peculiar charm. In classical literature there are many similar examples: Lucifer from John Milton's "Lost Paradise", Shakespeare's Falstaff, Lermontov's Demon, devil's retinue from "The Master and Margarita", after all. Such bad guys like girls and are models for imitation of adolescents looking for themselves. They are rebels, they challenge society, they are not bored with them. Of course, good always wins, but the evil while collecting more fans. To gravitate to the bad is the paradox of human nature. But if adult people are averse to the charm of vice, then what to say about children. After all, some fall in love with the most expressive and vivid characters, not paying attention to whether they are positive or negative.

Mikhail Vrubel «The Demon Seated» (1890)

For almost a hundred years, Walt Disney's studio has been the main supplier of selective and attractive evil for children and adolescents. Disney antagonists are bright and memorable characters, who are afraid and love at the same time, whether it's the sinister Jafar of Aladdin, the grotesque Ursula from The Little Mermaid, or the eccentric Cruella De Ville from the 101 Dalmatians. In opposition to the monotonous and schematic positive characters of the golden era of Disney, the villains look so realistic that it's hard not to admire how the directors and animators managed to breathe life into the usual set of drawings. And all because every Disney antagonist has a real prototype, sometimes no less charismatic.

Secret charm of vice

The Evil Queen ("Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", 1937) - Marlene Dietrich

The Evil Queen is the first and standard Disney evildoer. She embodies the absolute evil - cold, detached and mad at the same time. The Queen is not like the late, more grotesque Disney villains: Adelph Hitler admired this way. By the way, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was his most favorite animated film. It is difficult to deny that the features of a cold-blooded and unlimited Nazism are shining in the image of the Evil Queen.

Interestingly, the animator Art Babbitt, responsible for creating the image of the Evil Queen, was inspired by Hollywood divas, who exploited the fashionable vampy in the 1930s. The most famous femme fatale of Hollywood was Marlene Dietrich - a cold German woman of Aryan appearance, a favorite of Goebbels. The Minister of Public Education and Propaganda of Germany in 1936 offered Dietrich complete freedom of creativity and 200,000 Reichsmarks for every film. But she refused and went to the US. Later, Marlene Dietrich became an icon of Hollywood and the subject of adoring men - under her spell were such legendary figures as Erich Maria Remarque, Jean Gabben and Ernest Hemingway. All these novels ended unsuccessfully - Dietrich, like the Evil Queen, could coolly break any heart.

Chernobog ("Fantasy", 1940) - Bela Lugosi

"Fantasy" - one of the most daring experiments of Walt Disney. There is no general plot in the film: it consists of nine episodes, each of which represents an abstract animation sketch for some classical musical work. In the episode "A Night on a Bald Mountain", based on the same name by Modest Moussorgsky, appears the most eerie of all Disney monsters - Chernobog. To the Slavic deity this character has nothing to do: the name was used apparently for exotics. Chernobog - a huge demon of a winged demon that calls to the bald mountain of the dead from the cemeteries. On the scale, no other Disney evildoer can compare with him. Chernobog is the real embodiment of fear.

The prototype of Chernobog was the famous actor of horror films Bela Lugosi, famous for the role of Count Dracula in the Hollywood horror of the same name of 1931. Animators, working on the image of Chernobog, used the famous gesture of Bela Lugosha, and the wings of the demon of the night are similar to the black cloak of Dracula. The actor posed for them. At that time it was difficult to imagine a more suitable prototype for Chernobog than Bela Lugosi. Having played in "Dracula", he automatically became a horror-icon. But the film of the infernal villain, in turn, played a malicious joke with Lugosha. Alas, the actor was offered to act only in horror films: for the rest of his life he had to become that mad scientist, the monster of Frankenstein, then another vampire. By the way, even after the death of Bela Lugosi could not get rid of the obsessive role - he was buried in the costume of Dracula.

Cruella De Ville ("101 Dalmatians", 1961) - Tallulah Bankhead

Cruella De Ville is a villain with a touch of decadence. This dry, stinging woman with an unchanged mouthpiece in her hand and in eccentric outfits will go all out for the sake of gorgeous furs, even for the murder of hundreds of Dalmatian puppies. Cruella is a hostage of fashion with a hypertrophied sense of beauty. She is one of the first comic Disney antagonists, a kind of parody of the style icon.

The prototype of Cruella De Ville was the American theater actress Tallulah Bankhead, who had a special eccentricity, a hoarse voice and a peculiar sense of humor. For the Americans, she, as for us - Faina Ranevskaya. Tallulah Bankhead did not often star in the movie starring, but she decorated the screen with her comic cameo and had a huge success on Broadway. After it, there are many witty quotations, which are issued in separate books, as in the case of the statements of Faina Ranevskaya. The most famous of them: "I've tried different ways of sex. The usual posture causes me to claustrophobia, and from the others the neck is numb, "" I'll come to your room at five in the evening. If I'm late, start without me, "" Cocaine does not cause drug addiction. I know what I'm talking about: I have been sniffing it for many years. " Not surprisingly, with this witty lady forever with a cigarette in her hand and written off the image of the eccentric Cruella De Ville.

Professor Rethigan ("The Great Mouse Detective", 1986) - Vincent Price

The 1980s are the time of the Disney studio crisis. Few remember the animated films of this period: "Fox and the Dog," "Black Cauldron," "Oliver and Company." Only in 1989 the situation will change dramatically with the release of the Little Mermaid. In the future, the studio will release a number of films, without which it is impossible to imagine the image of "Disney" - "Aladdin", "The Lion King", "Beauty and the Beast" and others. But in 1986 appeared "The Great Mouse Detective" - an interpretation of stories about Sherlock Holmes with mice and rats in Victorian costumes. In a wide rental the film never came out - the creators confined themselves to the premiere on television. Despite this, the "Great Mouse Detective" is a perfect example of the Disney style. In the film, there is also an expressive character, who firmly entered the company of the best Disney villains. It's Professor Ratigan - a huge rat with London dandy manners and imperial ambitions.

The creators of Professor Ratigan were inspired by the images of the characters created on the screen by the cult actor Vincent Price. His gothic scoundrels from such famous horror films as "The Mask of Red Death", "The Horrible Doctor Fibs", "The House of Wax", despite their terrible crimes, have always been incredibly charming. By age 42, Vincent Price, being a well-known dramatic actor, broke his career by capturing horror films. And for the rest of his life he played sinister heroes with Shakespeare's touch. Over time, Vincent Pice was already difficult to perceive separately from his charismatic movie images. And in life, he did not stop creating a gothic atmosphere around him. By the way, the great actor not only served as a prototype of Professor Rethigan, but also voiced it.

Ursula (The Little Mermaid, 1989) - Divine

As mentioned above, "The Little Mermaid" brought "Disney" out of the creative crisis, revived the declining interest in animation around the world and marked a new era for the studio. In the film everything came together: high-quality animation, musical accompaniment, beautiful script and carefully thought out characters. If before the main characters in Disney were simply beautiful and virtuous, but boring and sketchy, in comparison with the villains, the "Mermaid" appeared a new type of positive female character, which is by no means always inferior in brightness to the antagonist. Mermaid Ariel, and then Belle of Beauty and the Beast, Jasmine of Aladdin, Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame, and others appear before the viewer as living and modern girls, whose rights also need to be reckoned with. Together with the villains, they now create full screen duets. So Ariel is not inferior to the octopus sea witch Ursula - one of the most recognizable evil characters created at the Disney studio.

Animator Ruben Aquino, responsible for the creation of Ursula, was inspired by the scenic image of the travesty-actor Devine. This is an unprecedented case, when Disney's animators took as a basis images of such marginal characters, widely known in narrow circles. Under the pseudonym "Divine" hid actor Harris Glen Milstead, famous as the executor of almost all the main female roles in the films of the first provocateur of American cinema, John Waters. These films, with their immorality and black humor, can still shock the audience just as they did in the 1970s. In the center of this disgrace was Divine, who, for the sake of art, could do anything, - so, in the final scene of the legendary film "Pink Flamingo", exposing one-story kitschy America, the actor ate real dog excrement. Devine did not become in 1988, and the image of shocking and cheeky Ursula can be called the last loud success of an ambiguous actor.

Gaston ("Beauty and the Beast", 1991) - Jean Mare

"Beauty and the Beast" - the first animated film in history, received the "Oscar" as the best film of the year. After the "Little Mermaid", the studio was able to jump above the head and create an even more successful project. It is interesting that in the "Beauty and the Beast" the villain and the monster change places - the dark side is represented by the usual rural playboy Gaston, and not the infernal beast from the abandoned castle, as it might seem at first glance.

In 1946, the French writer, artist and director Jean Cocteau put his version of the fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast". Many elements of this aesthetic film were used by Disney artists: in particular, for the image of the Beast, they took half-half-half man, as Jean Cocteau thought. In the film and antagonist, and the Beast performed Jean Mare. Later he played a lot in costume adventurous tapes of a raincoat and a sword. His courageous image of a strong guy with an expressive chin is reflected in Disney's Gaston.

Jafar ("Aladdin", 1992) - Conrad Feydt

"Aladdin" is an animated film released at the peak of the Disney Renaissance and inspired by the early Hollywood rethinking of the tales of "Thousand and One Nights", beginning with the "Baghdad Thief" and ending with "The Golden Journey of Sinbad." In "Aladdin" all stereotypes of oriental fairy tales are collected: sands, oriental bazaars, luxurious palaces, caves with treasures and carpets-planes. All this is flavored with postmodern humor from the talkative Jeanne and the classic love line of the princess and the beggar. The image of the negative character in "Aladdin" also does not sag: Jafar - the sinister adviser of the infantile sultan trades with black magic and dreams of taking the throne.

Jafar is borrowed from the British fantasy of 1940 "Baghdad thief". In this film, the vizier-sorcerer named Jafar also acted as an antagonist. He was played by the German actor Konrad Feydt, known for his roles in several key films for early German cinema films. He was widely known for his work in Robert Wine's "Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1920), where he played the somnambulist Cesare, who killed people on the orders of a mad doctor. Later Feydt moved to Hollywood, where he played Guinplain in the famous adaptation of the novel by Victor Hugo "The Man Who Laughs". The German actor was regularly offered the role of monsters, since no one but him could so convincingly play with the eyes of hatred, pain and anger. In the "Baghdad thief" he created a tragic and sinister image, which became a model of the image of the oriental villain. Not surprisingly, in post-modern "Aladdin" it was the image of Feydt that was used to create Jafar.

Relatively recently the studio "Disney" decided to change its attitude to negative characters. The last classic antagonist was Dr. Fasilieu from The Princess and the Frog 2009. The evil in the new Disney hits, such as "Braveheart" and "Cold Heart", does not stand out as a special charisma, as before. It lurks in the most ordinary people. In general, as in life. You will not get carried away with such things. This is probably correct - children who grow up already on these films can not be charmed by evil. Although the good old Disney scoundrels still cost a lot.

Mermaid Ariel is the youngest daughter of the sea king - Triton. She is very good-natured and mischievous.

The Little Mermaid loves to travel and this is helped her by her best friends - the goldfish Flounder and the crab Sebastian.

Fish Flounder

Crab Sebastian

Even in the very first feature-length film, released in 1989, the little mermaid is trying hard to investigate what is outside the ocean.

Her father Triton takes great care of her and strictly forbids her to go any further than she should. But despite the severe decree of his father, the princess is far away in the blue distance, where he finds a mysterious sunken ship.

Her friends, Sebastian and Flaunder, also followed her.

Ariel was waiting for a great danger!

There they find amazing objects - an old fork, a smoking pipe and other, no less interesting treasures.

But here, from where it does not appear, there is a huge shark. Friends sail away, as soon as possible, after which they float to the surface. The shark swam after them, but immediately got stuck in the sea depths.

The shark was defeated!

There, on the surface, they meet their old acquaintance - Seagull Scuttle. They ask him about the items found.

But then, suddenly, Scuttle reported that right now Ariel must be in the underwater kingdom to sing in the choir for his father. Frightened, she immediately swam home, and found the things she had hidden in the grotto, where she relates all things once lost by people.

After a successful concert with her father, Ariel again sailed to her secret place.

King Triton ordered the crab Sebastian to watch the princess, so the crab went after her, to the grotto.

Crab Sebastian

Suddenly, a big ship appeared over the ocean.

The little mermaid was very interested to know what is there.

She pops up and notices a very handsome, young boy.

It was a prince, his name was Eric. The princess immediately falls in love with him.

Prince Eric

When a terrible storm begins and a storm sets in,

the ship of Prince Eric suffers a wreck and the little mermaid saves him.

She carried him ashore.

Ariel sings the song to him until the prince wakes up and swims home.

Ariel saved Prince Eric

When she sailed home, Triton was terribly angry and destroyed the grotto where the princess referred objects lost by people. Ariel was upset.

Triton found out where Ariel had gone. He strictly forbade her to swim so far.

Ariel can not forget this beautiful prince and therefore, contrary to her father's prohibition, she asks for help from the old witch, Ursula.

Ursula told her that if Prince Eric does not fall in love and kiss her for 3 days, Ariel's soul will belong to the witch.

Ursula is very insidious! She can not be trusted.

Ariel thanked the witch and swam ashore.

Prince Eric noticed her and led him to his kingdom.

Ariel's faithful friends do not depart from them a single step.

They do everything in their power to make them love each other and the prince kisses the little mermaid.

Prince begins to fall in love with the little mermaid.

Ursula learns about this and turns into a young girl Vanessa.

She put on her magic medallion, where Ariel's wonderful voice is stored, and hypnotized Prince Eric.

Ursula will do anything to achieve her goal!

Fish Flounder and crab Sebastian rush to their aid.

They destroy their wedding and break the magic locket.

Thanks to this, Ariel again had a voice.

She told all about Prince Eric.

Unfortunately, three days have already passed and Ariel falls into the power of the wicked witch.

King Triton learns of this and sacrifices himself for his beloved daughter.

The witch was waiting for this. She dreamed of ruling the ocean.

The witch took the trident and turned into a huge monster.

Prince Eric immediately ran to save the little mermaid.

Ursula is trying his best to kill him, but suddenly, a miracle happened and the prince defeated her. Eric saved Triton and Ariel.

Triton thanked the prince.

He understands that his daughter really wants to become a man, rather than a little mermaid. Therefore, it takes away not from the tail and changes it to beautiful legs.

The Tsar let his daughter on the land.

After a while, the prince married Ariel. On this, the magic story ends.

The character of the mermaid Ariel was based on the work of Hans Christian Andersen "The Little Mermaid." Animator Glen Keen used to create a face mermaid - the image of his wife.

Animators for a long time could not come up with the perfect image of the little mermaid. They tried almost everything!

Early sketches of the mermaid Ariel

They stopped on a red-haired girl, with an emerald tail and a good-natured character.

To create a shade of the tail of Ariel, the artists have exerted a little effort!

This shade specifically for the film was created in the laboratory of the Disney channel and was named "Ariel" in honor of the little mermaid.

The color of the girl's hair was also not immediately determined by the artists.

Some thought that the light hair color would look more realistic, others - that the dark color of the hair would emphasize her personality.

It was difficult to come to a unanimous opinion.

They stopped on the red version, because he is best suited to her emerald tail.

The voice of the film

The role of the mermaid Ariel was specially invited to the American actress and singer - Jodi Benson.

When the song "Part of Your World" was recorded, Benson asked to turn off the light in the studio, in order to feel in the dark and blue sea, deep under water.

Mermaid Ariel is the most beloved heroine of Jodi Benson, from all the works of Disney.

The Russian version of the original cartoon about the little mermaid, sounded Russian singer - Svetlana Svetikova.

Svetlana Svetikova voiced the Russian version of the film "The Little Mermaid"

What happened then?

Then, after the successful shooting of the film about the little mermaid Ariel, it was decided to create a cartoon series about the adventures of our heroine.

It was a terrific idea.

And now, for many years, we can watch this show on Disney.

Many episodes of this series have not been released yet.

So it will be very interesting to know what will happen next.

Also, several other, equally interesting full-length films about Ariel were created:

The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the sea

After the wedding of Prince Eric and Ariel they have a daughter, Melody.

Also there is a negative character - Morgana (sister Ursula).

To protect Malody from the evil and malicious intentions of Morgan,

Eric and Ariel decide that they should not say anything to their daughter or about who her mother is and not a word about mermaids.

For protection, they erect a huge stone wall around the castle.

However, after growing up, Melody woke up interest in the sea.

She really wanted to become a mermaid.

She felt a kind of "connection" with the sea.

And, in order to realize her dream, she applies to the wicked sorceress Morena and asks her to make her a mermaid.

The wicked witch instructs Melodi's little mermaid to steal the magic trident of Triton. And if she does not, the witch will kill her.

This can be learned only if you look at this cartoon!

The Little Mermaid: The Beginning of the History of Ariel

Here is told about the past of the mermaid Ariel, about her early childhood.

About Ariel's mother, Triton's wife, who died at the hands of bloodthirsty pirates.

Probably, that's why Triton is very negative about people.

Mermaid Athena - Mom Ariel

It also tells about interesting events from the past, which in other parts of the film is silent.

In this series, all secrets will be revealed!

In addition to the films and TV series about Ariel, the video games "Kingdom Hearts l" and "Kindgdom Hearts ll" were also created

The plot of the game is that the witch Ursula kidnaps the faithful friend Ariel-Flaunder and asks for the trident of King Triton in return.

In the game you will play for the main character - Ariel.

You need to help her with all her strength to save her best friend!

Interesting facts about the mermaid Ariel!

Little Mermaid Ariel and Flounder

1) Unfortunately, absolutely perfect to remove a cartoon is almost impossible. And, like in other works / cartoons / books / series, the Little Mermaid had some minor flaws. Here are some of them.

I wonder why the number of denticles in the fork is constantly changing?

First there are 3, then 4 ...

Animators have mixed up something ...

By the way, look here - on the first frame of the mermaid Ariel has a bag, but on the second one-no.

First, the sailor's white shirt, and then the blue one. Color incredibly changes!

2) Fact number two. Currently, the mermaid Ariel has six sisters - Andrin, Attina, Adell, Arist, Aquat and Allan.

By the way, in all mermaids the name begins with the letter "A"

3) Did you know that Ursula is Aunt Ariel?

And Triton is her sister.

We hope that you learned something new from our article. Thank you very much for watching! =)

"Mermaid"  (English The Little Mermaid) - full-length hand-drawn studio film Walt Disney Feature Animation  . Directors - Ron Clements  and John Masker  . Based on the work of Hans Christian Andersen.

In the USSR in the early 1990s, the film in the author's translation of Alexei Mikhalev became the "legend of Video Salons", but was shown on 51 and other TV channels only in 1996-1997. In 1995-96, the series about the Little Mermaid was broadcast in the television show "The Magic World of Disney."

  Plot

The Little Mermaid Ariel, the youngest daughter of the sea king Triton, for forgetfulness did not come to the concert organized by the court counselor - crab Sebastian, where she was supposed to perform for the first time and sing her main part with her beautiful voice. Instead, she went with her best friend, the fishy Flounder, in search of adventure to one of the shipwrecks. The fact is that Ariel does not like life in the sea. Her dream is the world of people, and, driven by this dream, she collects a collection of human things from sunken ships.

This time, Ariel and Flaunter fell into a mess: the shark chased them, but friends managed to escape. The pipe for smoking and the fork - trophies found on the ill-starred ship, they carried to Scatter - a sea gull, who was a great connoisseur of human things (however, he explained the purpose of the plug and the tube incorrectly, seeing the comb and pipe in them).

After a quarrel with his father because of a broken concert and a repeated float to the surface, which Flaunder unintentionally said, Ariel and a friend swim into her secret cave, carefully storing human household items, carefully collected and arranged by her. Sebastian, sent by the king Triton to oversee the unfortunate daughter, penetrates the cave and chastises Ariel.

At that time the ship of Prince Eric sailed by. His retinue has long dreamed of marrying a crowned young man, but he does not want to marry in any way. He is waiting for that one, true love. On the day of his birth, a holiday was arranged on the ship. The prince was presented with his own statue and arranged a banquet with fireworks. Such a noise could not help attracting the attention of the curious little mermaid.

At the height of the party, a storm began, lightning struck the ship, and people began to run out in panic. Trying to save his dog Max, Eric himself fell into a trap and would have drowned had it not been for Ariel. She saved the prince, who had lost consciousness, and carried him ashore. There he awoke to the sound of her beautiful voice. When his mentor Ugrymus approached him and the faithful dog, sensing the owner, the beautiful stranger disappeared, but Eric could not forget her and set out to find her and ask for hands and hearts.

Ariel fell in love with Eric without a memory, but, since King Triton did not even want to hear about people, considering them to be pre-frozen barbarians and fish eaters, it had to be kept secret. Moreover, when Sebastian accidentally blabbed about the fact that the young mermaid fell in love with a human being, Triton appeared in a cave and in anger destroyed his entire trident daughter's collection, including the most important value - a statue of Prince Eric, donated by friends of Flaunder and Scuttle.

When Ariel bitterly lamented her collection, broken by her father, the scoundrels of Ursula's sea witch, the morays of Flots and Jets, crept up to her despicably. They persuaded the princess to ask her for help. It turns out that, being an exile of the palace, Ursula had long been watching the royal family in search of a chance to return. Her magic ball is a bubble in which an image of the desired place of events is created, provided by the contact of the edges of the two eyes of both her eels. The last seventh daughter of Triton could not abandon love for Eric - and in order to become part of his world, she desperately went to a deal with the sea witch.

The gloomy place where the witch lived was swarming with polyps growing from the bottom - the souls of the Atlantic inhabitants enslaved by a witch. The contract was as follows: Ursula gave Ariel human legs on the condition that within three days the prince would kiss her with "the kiss of true love". If this does not happen, the girl will always belong to Ursula. Instead, the witch demanded a fee - the voice of Ariel. The agreement the little mermaid signed - and became a man. Her voice was locked in a witch medallion. Ariel's friends arrived in time to help her get to the surface. Eric found it on the beach, but did not recognize it. After all, what he remembered best is her voice. Ariel became dumb, and her voice no longer belonged to her. Nevertheless, the beautiful girl Eric invited to the palace, where she surprised everyone with the manners to handle the fork and tube, and her friend Sebastian almost became part of the dinner.

The next day, Eric and Ariel went for a walk in the boat - and already had a kiss when the Flotsam and Jetts turned the boat. Ursula, seeing that her treacherous plan (after taking the mermaid and exchanging her for the crown of Triton) under threat, took decisive action: turned into a beautiful girl Vanessa with the voice of Ariel. Under the charms of the witch emanating from the medallion, Eric announced that he would marry her-and the sooner, the better. At sunset of the third day they sailed on the wedding ship. Scuttle, flying over the ship, heard the voice of Ariel and with horror found himself looking in the mirror Vanessa with the reflection of Ursula. Learning of this, Ariel tried to prevent them: while Flaunder helped her to swim to the ship, Scuttle raised all the sea inhabitants to his ears, and Sebastian swam after Triton.

Fish, birds, crabs and other animals staged chaos on the ship, Scuttle attacked the bride witch in a wedding dress, and Ariel's voice flew from Vanessa's broken pendant and returned to her mistress. Enchantment was withdrawn. Eric recognized Ariel, but he did not have time to kiss: the sun had already set. The sinister plan of Ursula was realized, and Ariel again became a mermaid. Vanessa reincarnated in Ursula and carried Ariel into the sea. On their way, Triton and Sebastian arose, but their attempts to prevent the sorceress did not lead to anything: the contract was stronger than the trident of Father Ariel. To save his beloved daughter, King Triton gave the crown to Ursula, becoming one of her new slaves - a worm-like polyp.

Eric did not tolerate such a state of affairs - he dived deeper and tried to neutralize Ursula, who was already about to finish with Ariel, who, in turn, saved him from the trident beam, resulting in the deaths of Ursula's acne. In anger, it increased in size, turning into a giant monster and making a storm in the ocean. Rising to one of the ships raised from the bottom, Eric battled Ursula and killed her. Everything returned to normal, and Triton, seeing how Ariel and Eric love each other, released his daughter and made her a man. It all ended with a merry wedding and a kiss by Ariel and Eric.

  Russian release

The Russian release of the cartoon in full dubbing (including vocal parts) was released in 2006, the series released by the studio later was already shown to the audience. The characters were voiced by well-known Russian actors and performers: Svetlana Svetikova, Thomas Schlecker, Alexey Ivaschenko, Anastasia Mintskovsky, Boris Klyuev, Ilya Khvostikov, Ismail Ziyadzade, Igor Yasulovich, Alexei Kolgan, etc.

The main substitute, according to viewers, was that Ismail Ziyadzade was chosen to vote for Sebastian's crab instead of Alexander Klyukvina. This was due to the fact that the cartoon is more vocal with vocal parts, so I had to do a new casting, twelve actors tried for the role. Another serious substitute was that the role of Ursula, which was previously dubbed by Olga Kuznetsova, went to Anastasia. At the same time, the director insisted that the role of the mermaid was duplicated by Svetlana Svetikova, who duplicated this role in the series

Mermaid Ariel (Ariel) - one of the main characters of the studio Walt Disney and the heroine of the cartoon "Mermaid" in 1989. The cartoon about Ariel is based on the fairy tale of the famous Swedish writer Hans Christian Andersen, but the character of the Little Mermaid is presented in a new way, like the final part of the story. Disney's Ariel is the fourth official princess of Disney. She is the only princess who is not a man by birth. A young freedom-loving mermaid is 16 years old, she spends her days in dreams, singing songs and looking for adventures on her scaly tail. Companions in the games and ventures of Ariel are fish Flaunder and crab Sebastian - the latter, however, is not enthusiastic about the adventures and looks more closely at his ward. Ariel falls in love with a man named Eric and risks everything for the sake of love.

Character Design

The original design of the mermaid Ariel was developed by the staff animator of the Disney studio Glen Keen. In one of the interviews Keane argues that for the image of Ariel he was inspired by his wife, as well as by the slightly exterior appearance of the model of Sherry Stoner and the still young actress Alyssa Milano. Stoner, by the way, was the main model for the cartoon character. Animators of the studio watched her movements and movements of her hair in a special tank with water in order to draw Ariel. The facial features of the Little Mermaid (high forehead, large eyes, small mouth, narrow chin) ultimately subtly resemble Belle from "Beauty and the Beast", as well as Alice from "Alice in Wonderland".

Voice of the character

For the articulation of the Little Mermaid Ariel, young actress Jody Benson was invited. And the creators of the cartoon necessarily wanted that Benson not only performed musical parts, but also spoke for the heroine of the cartoon. When the main musical theme of the cartoon "Part of your World" was recorded, Jody asked to turn off the light in the studio to feel like she was deep under water.

Mermaid Ariel has a fragile physique. She has long, straight, fiery-red hair, usually loose on her shoulders, pale skin, a small bright mouth and expressive blue sea-colored eyes. Below the waist, she has a mermaid's tail.

Appearance Ariel

Under the water, the Little Mermaid costume is a lavender color bra, instead of legs - a scaly fish tail of a green color. For the first time having got on land, Ariel for the lack of the best puts on a piece of a canvas and is tied with string instead of a belt. Once in the castle of Prince Eric, she changes the canvas outfit to a sumptuous pink dress with a wide hem, a lower skirt of pale pink and sleeves that open the shoulders. Through the slits in the sleeves a white satin is seen. Also in the palace, the girl gets a pink nightie with ruffles. On the first walk with the prince, Ariel dresses in a wide long blue skirt, a blue shirt with loose sleeves, a dark blue, almost black lace corset and black shoes on a small heel. Her head is decorated with a blue bow. Also the girl can be seen in a long sparkling blue dress with a slit that her father, King Triton, gave her, before the wedding with Eric. The Mermaid's wedding costume consists of a lush white satin dress with a blue edging along the neckline and bottom of the corset and tight sleeves gathered in large buffers at the shoulders. On the girl's head is a golden tiara with a transparent long veil. White eardrum earrings in ears.

Mermaid Dresses

Ariel is a very energetic and determined young mermaid with a penchant for games and adventures. On a couple with his friend, a fish Flaunder, the Little Mermaid explores the depths of the ocean with the enthusiasm of a pioneer. Most of the girl is interested in wrecks, because there you can find things from the world of people. A variety of human subjects Mermaid Ariel takes in his collection. She is obsessed with all human beings and especially eager to get into the world of people - in this regard, the girl often rises to the surface, is friends with the seagull Scatter and watches the sailing ships. Ariel is impulsive, impulsive, but is ready to be responsible for her actions, which often lead to various misunderstandings and problems. Stubborn by nature, she is not satisfied with the quiet joys of the collector. In order to achieve his goal (to land on land and rejoin Prince Eric, in whom he fell in love), the girl goes to the lair of the sea witch and enters into an agreement according to which she gets a pair of legs instead of a mermaid's tail and a chance to build happiness with her lover in the world of people.

Despite the adventurous spirit, the girl is compassionate, her heart is full of kindness and love for friends and family. In addition, Ariel possesses remarkable courage and dedication, she sacrifices everything for the sake of true love and more than once saves her lover.

In the animated film "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea" Ariel has matured. She's the mother of little Melody. At the time of events in the cartoon events, the Little Mermaid is about 28 years old. Ariel is still very attractive, removes her red hair in a high hairstyle or tail and wears gorgeous gold and white dresses, a crown and ornaments. Movement is distinguished by her power, although sometimes she secretly misses the sea and allows herself to drop her shoes and wander barefoot on the water.

Nature of the Little Mermaid

Ariel has several superpowers:

The Power of Atlantis

Apparently, Ariel partially inherited the power of the Atlanteans from her ancestors along the paternal line. She is able to move a rather impressive underwater boulder, blocking the entrance to her grotto with treasures. In addition, Ariel effortlessly climbs Prince Eric's ship with his hands. And when the prince sinks, the girl lifts him, apparently, by no means an easy body to the surface and even pulls him to the shore. In the third part of "The Little Mermaid: The Beginning of History", Ariel is even able to knock out a heavy door to release friends. It is not known whether she retained her remarkable strengths in human hypostasis, however, it is believed that of all Princesses of Disney Ariel is physically the strongest. With her, only Rapunzel with her frying pan can compete.

Persistence of Atlantis

In the final battle with Ursula in the original cartoon Mermaid falls into a giant whirlpool a few miles deep. An ordinary person would have killed such a fall, but Ariel - no scratches. There is an opinion that in the human form the Little Mermaid retained this ability. This can be confirmed by a moment in the lair of the sea witch, when Ariel turned into a man at great depth, but was not crushed by pressure and did not choke while Flaunder and Sebastian brought her to the surface. This her ability is briefly mentioned in the game Kingdom Hearts, where she can quickly recover from the blow inflicted by the enemy. This also includes resistance to extreme temperatures - both high and low. First of all, this ability manifests itself in video games. Ariel, without any visible consequences, swam in the icy water (Morgan's lair in the iceberg), and near the underwater volcanoes (the lair of Ursula in the volcanic region).

Underwater breathing, or the ability to breathe underwater

Like all mermaids, Ariel is able to breathe both on land and under water.

Ariel in his underwater cache

Superfast swimming

Ariel swims much faster than humans and even faster than some underwater creatures. She is also capable of jumping out of the water like dolphins.

Ability to speak with sea creatures

Ariel understands the language of the fish and can talk to them. This ability is preserved in human form. This talent was also inherited by Ariel's daughter Melody.

Aquaquine, or water management

In the form of a mermaid Ariel is able to manage the water element on a small scale. This ability is actively used in computer games, in particular, in the game "The Little Mermaid" by Sega. It is believed that aquacinemia is closely related to Ariel's emotions - just like the freezing of Elsa in the Cold Heart.

Ariel and Flounder escape from the shark

Agility

This can be seen in the example of Ariel's management of the cart on the first walk with the prince, as well as in the second part of the animated film "The Little Mermaid: Return to the Sea", when the youngest sister of the sea witch Ursula Morgana tries to steal the little Melody. Then Ariel snatches the sword of the prince and cuts the rope in a clear movement to bring the witch into the water and not allow the child to hurt.

High adaptive capacity

What confirms how quickly she learned to stand and walk on freshly acquired human legs. While an ordinary person has to learn to use his lower limbs for much longer than a few minutes. In addition, Ariel quickly adopted human traditions and learned to use everyday objects correctly. In any case, after the first incident, she no longer combed her hair with a fork in public and did not try to blow a pipe in front of the amazed public.

A charming magic voice

Like the voices of ancient Greek sirens, Ariel's voice and singing have magical properties in every way. She awakened the singing of Prince Eric, when he was unconscious after the shipwreck. The hypnotic power of the mermaid's voice was used by the witch Ursula to charm the prince. Ariel herself never used her voice for dark purposes.

The Little Mermaid: cartoon 1989 (The Little Mermaid 1989)

The Little Mermaid, or "The Little Mermaid" - a 1989 cartoon from Disney Studios. This is the recycled fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen about the most egregious mesalliance: a man in love with a mermaid. The tale ends tragically, but the creators of the cartoon decided that the final of the literary source was too harsh, and adapted the script for the little ones by writing a happy ending.

The Disney mermaid is the youngest of the seven daughters of King Triton, ruler of the Atlantic. Ariel is 16 years old. She is very interested in the world of people, and, despite the strict prohibitions of her father, often comes to the surface.

Ariel and Sebastian

At the beginning of the cartoon, the little mermaid Ariel and her friend, Fish Flounder, explore the sunken ship in search of human things that Ariel passionately collects. There the heroes are attacked by sharks, however, avoiding sharp teeth, swim with the prey (fork and a pipe). Climbing to the surface, the Little Mermaid refers to Scuttle, the familiar gull, with a request to identify items found under water. Scuttle says that a fork is a device for combing hair and creating hairstyles, and a smoking pipe is a musical instrument. The last thing reminds Ariel that she was supposed to perform at a concert in honor of her father. She hurries home, to the castle, where she receives a severe reprimand for both being late and for rising to the surface. King Triton strictly forbids his daughter to rise up. However, Ariel, with the adolescent's characteristic obstinacy, does not want to obey his father. She goes to her secret refuge - the grotto, where a huge collection of things from the world of people is stored. Dreams of land are interrupted by a ship floating over the head of the mermaid. She rises to the surface and looks at the ship. There she sees Prince Eric, who celebrates his birthday. Ariel falls hopelessly in love with a human man. Meanwhile, a terrible storm is being played on the sea, and the ship is sinking. The Little Mermaid saves her lover and drags him ashore. Having awakened him with his charming singing, she hides in the water.

Ariel sings

King Triton, learning that his daughter is in love with a man, destroys the entire collection of Ariel in a secret grotto. In despair the girl turns to the sea witch Ursula to help her. Ursula turns Ariel into a man with one condition: Prince Eric must give the girl a kiss of love for three days. If this does not happen, Ariel's soul will belong to the sea witch. In addition, the witch takes a wonderful voice of the girl, leaving her dumb. The contract is signed.

Once on the shore, wrapped in a sail, the Little Mermaid meets her prince. Erica seems familiar face girl, and he takes her to his castle to help and warm. The Little Mermaid begins a mission to seduce the prince. Eric takes Ariel for a walk around the kingdom, the spontaneity and cute nature of the girl conquer him and he wants to kiss her, but this hinders the minions of the sea sorceress - electric acne. They turn the boat, in which the prince and the Little Mermaid made a romantic walk.

On the last day of the contract with the witch, Ariel wakes up from the news that Prince Eric is going to marry. But not on it. The sea witch, assuming the appearance of the dark-haired young girl Vanessa, decided to take matters into her own hands and hypnotized the prince, using the voice of the Little Mermaid, enclosed in a nautilus shell. The ship with the guests and the bridegroom with the bride sails, leaving the grieving Ariel on the shore. In the meantime Skittle peeks into the porthole and sees that Vanessa is a sea witch, which Ariel hastens to inform. The Little Mermaid jumps into the water to catch the ship and save the prince from the witch's claws. Friends of the girl (seagulls, seals, fish) prevent the wedding. In the process of turmoil, the amulet-shell, in which the voice of the little mermaid was enclosed, is broken. The drugged Prince Eric is beginning to see, Ariel returns to his voice, but it's too late. The sun sets and with its last ray the contract with the sea witch takes effect. Ariel again becomes a Mermaid, and Ursula takes her with him to the sea. Her path is blocked by King Triton, who was notified by the crab Sebastian. When Triton realizes that he can not influence the contract, signed by the hand of his daughter, he sacrifices himself for Ariel and offers himself instead. The witch takes possession of the magical royal trident. However, Prince Eric is not ready to part with a barely found lover, even a mermaid, and tries to kill the witch harpoon. In the ensuing battle, witches' pets die - electric acne, in a rage she wants to destroy both Ariel and the prince, turning into a giant and setting up a storm. However, Eric kills a sorceress, propelling her belly with the sharp nose of a ship lifted up by a whirlpool from the bottom of the sea.

King Triton, realizing that his daughter is suffering from love of the mortal, turns her into a man. Lovers reunite and marry.

Wedding of Ariel and Erica

The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the sea

In the continuation of the story about Ariel "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea" shows the events that occurred one year after the wedding of Ariel and Eric. The couple has a daughter Melody. The baby's safety is threatened by the insane younger sister of the deceased witch Ursula. To little Melody did not threaten, Ariel and her husband decide to keep the daughter away from the sea and its inhabitants. To this end, they build a high wall on the shore and do not tell the maturing Melody about her marine relatives. However, the voice of the sea turns out to be stronger, and the girl, reaching the age of 12, unable to overcome her love for the water element, finds herself in the clutches of the witch Morgana and her minions. Ariel is forced to temporarily turn back into a mermaid to find and save her daughter.

The cartoon "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea" is somewhat different from the canonical version. Nevertheless, this part is the official continuation of the fairy tale "Little Mermaid" from Disney.

Mermaid: cartoon 1989 vs The Little Mermaid: Andersen's Tale

There are a number of principal differences between the book heroine (the fairy tale "The Little Mermaid") and the animated cartoon (The Little Mermaid, 1989 cartoon).

  • The original Mermaid had 5 sisters, in the Disney's Ariel - 6.
  • Andersen's Mermaid had no name as such, she was just a little sea maiden. Disney's studio called her mermaid "Ariel".
  • The Book Mermaid is 15 years old, Ariel is 16.
  • In the original story, the Little Mermaid has a grandmother, with whom she constantly talks.
  • In the book, mermaids are allowed to surface and observe people if they are 15 years old. In the cartoon of the Little Mermaid, Ariel was not allowed to climb to the surface even at the age of 16.
  • The grandmother of the sea maiden told me that although mermaids live longer than humans (sometimes 300 years), people have a soul. So the main motivation of the Little Mermaid Andersen is to get an immortal human soul. And not the prince's love.
  • In exchange for a voice in a fairy tale, the witch gives the Mermaid a potion that makes that person and lets you dance beautifully. The witch warns the Little Mermaid that she will never be able to return to the sea. In addition, the poor soul is not put immortal soul, until she meets a man who will love her in return and marry her. And at the dawn of the first day, if her beloved marries another, the Little Mermaid will turn into a foam of the sea. Disney immediately put his soul into his heroine, this is confirmed by the contract with Ursula, which gave Ariel legs in exchange for her soul and voice.
  • Cartoon Ariel had more interest in humanity than her book prototype. She collected a collection of objects created by people. While in the fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" it was the Sisters of the Little Mermaid that were fond of exploring sunken ships and searching for human things.
  • When the Little Mermaid Andersen got her feet, every step caused her unbearable pain - it was a payment for being a man. The Disney mermaid just got her feet and did not feel any discomfort when using her new limbs.

Mermaid Ariel

In 2008, Broadway released the musical "The Little Mermaid", a year before in Denver, premiered a musical version of the famous Disney cartoon, but was soon closed due to a strike by Broadway workers. To the main songs of the Little Mermaid (Part of your World, Under the Sea, Kiss the Girl) from the cartoon were added a few more new songs. The role of Ariel in the musical "Little Mermaid" was performed by Broadway actresses Sierra Boggess and Chelsea Morgan Stoke. On the night of the opening, the main song of the Little Mermaid was sung by Jody Benson, who voiced Ariel in the original cartoon.

Musical Mermaid

Doll Mermaid / Barbie the Little Mermaid

A distinctive feature of the Mermaid doll is the hair that changes color. As a rule, under the influence of water from light, the hair becomes pink or purple. There are several variations of the Mermaid Barbie doll with different hair color. Also there are models that can change not only the hair, but also the color of the tail. In cold water, the tail acquires a pale pink shade, in hot water it is bright purple. The tail of Barbie the Little Mermaid can also be different. There are models in which the tissue tail is part of the costume and hides the legs. On sale you can find dolls Mermaid with a flexible tail, which can bend and turn, but can not transform into legs. Included in these dolls are a comb and a seahorse, which can collect water and shoot a thin trickle.

Criticism and perception of the public

The "Little Mermaid", a 1989 cartoon film, like the other canonical pictures of the studio ("Snow White", some cartoons about Mickey Mouse, etc.), gave rise to a series of asymmetrical views on his plot. For example, it is believed that in the kingdom of the Atlantic, in Ariel's homeland, gay fascism reigns: some fish swim freely and freely, while others are actively exploited by the ruling class, harnesses in chariots (Triton dolphins and Grabbies of Sebastian crab) and uses instead musical instruments.

Mermaid herself is accused of pathological plushkinism, as well as an immature feeling for the handsome prince. The patriarchal retro-story of the fairy tale was also subjected to criticism. The main message of the children's cartoon, according to a number of critics, is this: be cute! And it does not matter what you say and whether you speak at all - your appearance is with you ...

Ariel Hipster

  • The Little Mermaid Ariel is the only official Princess of Disney who is not a man by birth.
  • Ariel is the only Disney princess who gave birth to a child and became a mother.
  • Unlike her sisters, Little Mermaid Ariel does not wear hair accessories, except for sea flowers.
  • All Ariel sisters have names that begin with the letter "A" and end with the same letter. Except Ariel.
  • From the Hebrew name Ariel translates as "God's Lion", and this is the name of Archangel Ariel.
  • The Aral Melanie's pose towards the end of the cartoon, when she was sitting on a boulder and looking sadly at her lover, was inspired by the Mermaid in Sweden.
  • Despite the fact that Ariel and her mother Athena seem remarkably similar in appearance, the character Ariel went to her father. This is especially noticeable in The Little Mermaid 2, when Ariel reprimands his daughter Melody for disobeying orders and disobedience, just as King Triton once chided Ariel himself.
  • The daughter of Ariel, Melody, is like Ariel, but her cherished wish is diametrically opposed. Ariel dreamed of becoming a man and live on land, and Melody wants to become a mermaid and swim under water.
  • Externally, Melody looks like her father - the color of eyes and hair.
  • The "Mermaid" last used the image of a woman-villain before the debut of Rapunzel in 2010.
  • The night shirt of the Little Mermaid Ariel resembles the nightgown of Princess Anne from the movie "Roman Vacations".
  • According to the book Disneystrology, Ariel's birthday is October 8th.
  • Ariel is a right-hander, this is evident when she signs the contract of Ursula.
  • The Little Mermaid Ariel has become an Internet meme: she is often portrayed in hipster large glasses in thick frames, with tattoos and in an appropriate outfit.
  • Ariel is the first character to have his own musical (the second is "Beauty and the Beast").
  • Mermaid Ariel is the only Disney character who knows sign language.
