Children   7-11 years old , in general, all the hustle and bustle, and they are tired for a long time. The transition from one topic to another saves the matter. I start classes with simple.We make optical toys together, study silhouette, draw on paper, head, human body, animals, study our own hands, on the subject of how to make a cartoon out of them, or at least make of one's own hand from one of the personages. We discuss and try to revive such household items as matches, water, shells, leaves, etc. I call this - cartoons "from all"

All the actions with animating computer programs I do while I myself. Although many senior pupils, if there is a computer class in the school, are happy to revive the cartoons themselves. Subsequently, the child, (if the parents welcome it), connects and studies the program, learns how to do it himself. Although in my experience, the desire to do this painstaking work on my own, without the help of parents, appears in children, usually only from 14-15 years.

Nevertheless, after seeing the first result, the child knows what awaits him at the end and is ready to work. Especially if the cartoon is the creation of collective creativity. Here, just my main task is to wind up the raging fantasy and not let the children run too far ahead, and soberly assess the effort. Said - one hero, then one hero. I complicate the following task, put into action second character, background, setting.

In parallel we study draw, sculpt, study the shape, human, animals, volume, proportions, introduce the concept of plans.

Become a character, a little play in the actors, as far as the class area allows. Animator and acting skills are inseparable.

Such small cartoons with one or two characters, with no complex movements and actions, we do from two to three to many, depending on the desire, assiduity, complicating and saturating them with additional elements and tasks.

Children often state:I want to become a multiplier. In order to become a multiplier there are many roads and options. But, the first thingshould be able to future animator - very good to draw.   And it's worth devoting time and it's better to start learning from childhood. Ability to draw is the most important thing. Even if a person is going to become a multiplier of computer animation, for example, 3D. Here you need to learn to draw well twice. For beginners of 3D animation, it often seems that after mastering the program, they already know everything. But how sad to see how 3D 3D characters, especially animals, made in 3D, not a skilled artist, move like cripples, as if they suffer from foot diseases. In Vgik and other educational institutions, the future artists of animators and directors are taught mastery, but the main thing is that they instill a definite worldview.Perhaps this is the main task of all educational institutions and not only creative ones. The worldview is a complex phenomenon of man's spiritual world, and consciousness, it becomes the foundation of all life. It gives man "an integral system of values, ideals, receptions and models for life "  (vinipedia). For example, teaching in a certain high creative atmosphere gives one important skill - to distinguish good creativity from bad. High from low. A good movie from the bad. A good book from the bad. Good painting from bad. After all, a person perfectly feels and understands the difference in food - tasty and tasteless. But with the "absorption" of food for the soul, the choice between harmful, low and valuable, good can not be done simply. To do this, it is important to know what to watch, what to read and to watch properly. Even if a person does not become a director or a cinema artist, he can become a competent spectator. At least a good film, a cartoon in which there is morality, intelligence and beauty.
In VGIK we every Thursday, almost all day, necessarily saw different movies and cartoons. The best, entering the gold fund, new, newest, Soviet, Russian, foreign. After all, every talented, well-made film makes the viewer think, makes to make a moral choice, because one of the characters can be bad, another good. Films forced, sad, joy, sometimes cry, but what's more, often makes you build your future character, choose your future destiny. A good film makes a person smarter, gives emotions that he had not previously experienced, gives information that he did not know before.

The future animator and director should watch a lot of cartoons with the task of learning to watch, it means: to notice how the cartoon is made, in what technique, how it differs from the usual one, to note what emotions a particular film causes, talk about it with relatives, (here need help from mothers, dads and grandmothers), talk about heroes of bad and good, about their differences in appearance, character, behavior, talk about their feelings, learns to compare one cartoon with another, try to portray your favorite hero.
But, for example, show children 6 years of animated film"The Angel"   (Russia) director Z. Bideeva will be, definitely, early, the child will get bored and even sad. Anime - ithe Japanese word "anime", meaning "animation", goes back to the English word "animation", borrowed and shortened to three syllables.

This topic I would like to devote a separate conversation. Despite the prejudice of my generation against the anime, it is loved by children, especially teenagers, they are "sick", it is crammed (cosplay -costume game, the form of the embodiment of the action performed on the screen), it is collegiate.
From the fact that the anime is gaining increasing popularity among children of middle and senior school age, there is no way to escape. And the anime has something to learn. The story lines of the anime are very diverse, these are stories  about parallel realities and space, about historical events, many anime recreate the daily life of the main characters, the most ordinary teenagers in the most ordinary cities. This is attractive for teenagers, as it tells them that someone knows and understands their problems and their thoughts.

Good anime has positive distinctive features: it is a recreation of a special atmosphere, a creatively manifested picture of the world, a special picture of the world in which heroes exist. Increased (moderately) emotional background. And also a certain fine, purely Japanese contemplation in the actions of the heroes and sometimes in a beautiful depiction of landscapes, pictures of cities, natural landscapes, where we observe the movement of wind, leaves, running water, birds flying, reflections in puddles, windows and so on. Even if you look only at nature in such good anime, you can get creative pleasure. Also a good anime is characterized by carefully selected music, which complements the atmosphere of the film ..

FROM a serious criticism is caused by an excessive amount of violence and erotica in some animes, an excessively heightened emotionality, this all sometimes leads to inadequate behavior of children who are keen on watching anime that can lead to pathological forms; escape from reality, aggressiveness, isolation, unsociability, long life in the film, refusal to live their real life. The joint children's cascade, the cutting of children for a while, in the costumes of the heroes - does not count, provided that the teenager for the rest of the time lives a full-fledged real life in real time.

The next task is to create a large own cartoon.Where does the creation of a large cartoon begin? Correctly: With ideas. Then we create a script, it should be uncomplicated. To learn what a scenario is, before writing it together with children, we often write and do game-walker,and then we play it.

If the child does not know what he wants to make a cartoon, you can invite him to play games that develop the imagination of the narrator. For example: tell memoirsfrom the face of an old pen, a bookcase, a chair, a daddy's notebook or phone. Remember the rules of behavior in the subway, on the escalator, in school, on the analogue to come up with the rules of conduct on Mars for the beetle, on the roof of the house for birds, for pie in the stove, for sausage in the store and so on.

Doing the cartoon, we try to go through everything like adult artists. Make a storyboard, with the calculation of time, if the cartoon is complicated, write a special, animation plan. And we are already striving to make our character in accordance with the theme, and not "how to", honing it   scenario character  and image . Create backgrounds, plans. We select music. We record voice, we write captions. Animating.  Such a cartoon can not be done in two or three sessions. It is final. For older children 12-18 years old the tasks are more complicated, here we study more seriously - how to draw, how to sculpt, how to write a script, how to make a storyboard. Children themselves sit down at the computer to "collect" their cartoon in the program. For children   14-18 years old,  at will, a new kind of animation is introduced -   hand-drawn.cm.   There's a lot less game, more study.

The works of these people come into our lives from early childhood, pushed to the background in the period of adolescence, but when we become adults, they return again to make us a little bit better, kinder, wiser. It's about animators or animators. About what begins the mastering of the profession of the animator, what data is needed to successfully master this skill and about the key stages of the cartoon work, one of the creators of the animated Oscar-winning animated film "The Old Man and the Sea" Dmitry Petrov.
- Dmitry, you could not give a definition of the profession of the animator for a start?
- Animator-artist is a kind of animate. This is a person who is sensitive to dynamics of movement, able to draw not just some moving picture, but an image that seems to be really alive. This is a man who, with his skill, not only animates cartoon characters, but creates new, albeit animated, personalities.
- How to become an animator, what kind of education and abilities are needed for this?
- Now everyone who wants to become an animator can come to the animation studio (there are a lot of them) and offer their services. Whoever he is, most likely, he will be asked to pass the "Young Fighter Course", that is, master the basics of animation. For starters, for example, they will ask you to draw the pendulum and hang the pendulum, at the next stage a feather is attached to the pendulum and the task becomes more complicated, then it is required to depict the phases of the falling ball movement, at first light and elastic, then heavy. The most difficult thing in mastering the basics is the image of a person's gait in different angles: to the depth, from right to left, diagonally. If the animator-apprentice has mastered these or similar basic things, he is admitted to more complex work. But before you become a multiplier, of course, you will have to master the craft of a phaser or a filler. These specialists are engaged in the most painstaking and routine work - drawing. The artists-phasers represent the intermediate phases of the character's movements (the animator draws the key phases), and the fillers are engaged, roughly speaking, in the coloring of these phases. Although their work belongs to the category of technical, without phasemakers and fillers, there would not have been a single cartoon.
As for education, the artistic preparation in the animation, of course, does not hurt. However, the sense of rhythm and sense of action in this profession, maybe even more important than the talent of the artist. There are many wonderful animators with a great sense of rhythm, but they do not draw very well. By the way, especially many among the animators of people with architectural education. Apparently, the language of animation is close to them and understandable, because for an architect, just as for a multiplier, it is important to feel the space.
Whatever it was, before you try it in this profession, it is important to understand that animation is a painstaking work, in which incredible patience is needed. My father - Alexander Petrov, the author of the cartoon film "The Old Man and the Sea" - calls his work "the work of a monk", and many of his colleagues in the shop use less exalted images, characterizing a professional animator as "a man with a copper ass." Judge for yourself: shooting a 10-minute author's cartoon takes at least a year, during which about 12,000 drawings are created. And each of these drawings is not an outline and not a sketch, but a full-fledged finished hand-made image.
- Could you step by step describe the process of working on a cartoon.
- Creation of the animated film begins, naturally, with the maturation of ideas from the director. After that, a basic script is written and a storyboard is done. This is such a story in pictures depicting key episodes of the future film. Outwardly, it resembles a comic book, but, in fact, has a superficial resemblance to it. The next stage - the search for characters. Each animator does it his own way. My father usually looks for prototypes of characters in real life, and quite often the characters of his cartoons are somewhat reminiscent of his friends and acquaintances. For example, the prototype of the protagonist in the movie "The Old Man and the Sea" was his father-in-law - my grandfather. When global creative problems are solved, the plot is taken, in which the director is most sure, and his detailed storyboard is drawn in black and white. If the director arranges the resulting material, then it is drawn in color and is photographed. After the end of filming, the turn of post-production begins, which includes musical design, voice of characters and editing. This part of the work is performed by the director with people who are not related to animation, and it takes much less time than for the main work.
- Talking about the work on creating a cartoon, you talk about the meaning of sketches and storyboards, but do not say anything about the role of computer technology, which, to my knowledge, ruled the ball in modern animation.
- Indeed, now everything was simplified to a minimum - there was little man-made animation, most of the work is done on the computer. But is it possible to create a good cartoon using a set of ready discs, from which the character is formed by giving some kind of mimicry to the disc, and everything else remains patterned. For me, creating animated films exclusively on the computer is nonsense. If I do not feel the texture (paper, paints), then I do not feel free. When working in computer programs, a dependence on this powerful tool appears, which not only simplifies the work, but almost always overcomes the result. Another thing is when the computer is used as a retouch for recording a finished picture or it simplifies the work of the phasemakers and fillers. In this case, it performs a very useful technological function.
- And how much do animators earn?
- Very differently. It depends on the studio, the volume and the specifics of the work. But, of course, when working on a major project in a well-known studio (now there have been a lot of such work in our country), even the plotter-phasemakers and fillers earn well.
