Where and when to pick mushrooms in the Moscow region?

Everyone knows that mushrooms grow well in warm, humid weather, especially if it is July or August. Most mushroom pickers can be found in mixed and spruce forests, birch groves and pine forests.

Cap mushrooms, many of which are edible, usually have a developed mycelium under several tree species at once. In the forests of the Moscow region, mycorrhiza (“fungus root”) often appears near pines, spruces, birches, oaks and aspens. Less common under larches, poplars, alder and rowan.

For some edible mushrooms, the organic matter of decaying wood or the forest floor of leaves and needles is more important. Many honey mushrooms are famous for this.

Eat edible mushrooms, which feel great in seemingly completely inappropriate places. For example, on burnt areas and fireplaces you can see the tall morel growing.

There are more mushrooms on the edges of the forest, along forest roads, clearings, on lawns, etc. But dense thickets and too high grass stand are considered less suitable places for collecting mushrooms.

The first (spring) mushrooms are morels and strings. June - August is the time when the bulk of edible mushrooms appear. The growth of many edible mushrooms is inhibited or ends with the onset of autumn frosts. Although some of them can be collected even with a serious drop in air temperature in late autumn. For example, winter honey fungus. Toward the end, before the beginning of winter, such little-known edible mushrooms as buttercollibia and violet rowan continue to appear.

How to pick mushrooms in the Moscow region - safety rules

The basic safety rules that should be followed when going into the forest to pick mushrooms or berries are simple, the main thing is to follow them. The forests of the Moscow region, of course, are not taiga, however, you can get lost in them, so do not neglect the safety rules when picking mushrooms and you are guaranteed the pleasure of quiet hunting in the Moscow region:

1. You should not go into the forest alone. When going to the forest, it is necessary to warn relatives and friends about the route and time of stay in the forest.

2. Rescuers recommend refilling your cell phone balance and checking the battery charge before going mushroom hunting. Take with you a compass, matches, a knife, a small supply of water and food. Those who constantly use medications, and this primarily concerns older people, need to have medications with them.

3. Clothes should be bright. Camouflage in the forest can be invisible even from three meters. It would be good if there were reflective stickers on your clothes.

4. Enter the forest only during daylight hours. Remember your route, pay attention to fallen trees, streams, and clearings that will help you navigate the forest.

5. If you do get lost, don’t panic, stop and think about where you came from, whether you can hear screams, car noise, or barking dogs. If possible, climb on tall tree and look around.

6. Try to find a clearing or road and move along it. It should be remembered that any road will sooner or later lead you to a populated area.

7. If you couldn’t find your way and night found you in the forest, don’t worry. Find a suitable place to stay overnight. It is not recommended to move in the dark; you can get injured by tripping or falling into the water.

8. The place to spend the night is chosen high and dry, preferably near big tree. Prepare brushwood for the fire, make bedding from spruce branches. It is best to sit with your back to a tree, light a fire in front of you and keep it going all night.

9. More than once, a cell phone has helped to locate lost mushroom pickers. To ask for help, you need to dial 112 and explain your location, following the quarter post, which is a kind of forest sign. You can call rescuers from your mobile phone even without a SIM card or if you are on the territory of a “foreign operator” of cellular communications.

Previously on the topic of Mushrooms:

Most likely, this year's yield will be high. It has been noted that the most mushrooms are usually found in the Vitebsk and Minsk regions. We present to your attention several places where you won’t leave without a basket of mushrooms.

Mushrooms near Minsk

Avid hunters often choose long-distance routes. After all, it is believed that the further you go, the more mushrooms you will collect. In fact, you don't really need to travel very far. There are no fewer mushrooms in the Minsk forests than in other forests of Belarus.

Map of mushroom places

Logoischina

Everywhere, various mushrooms are accepted by procurers: boletus, boletus, boletus, fly mushroom, boletus, honey mushroom, russula, chicken. But the most commercial mushrooms are chanterelles. Thanks to this, an amateur mushroom picker who knows the area can earn very good money during the season.

If you have a personal car, then the most the right decision will go to the forests, which are located in the Vitebsk direction along the highway (from Logoisk to the village of Pleshchenitsy). There are a lot of mushroom places there. It is best to go to villages such as Molodi (located at the 9th kilometer), Mostishche, Aleshniki (at the 12th kilometer), Krokva (at the 19th kilometer), Pogrebishche, Takovshchina (at the 21st kilometer).

If you don’t have your own personal transport, then, if necessary, you can use public transport. The train does not go to these places. You can only get there by bus, which doesn’t run that often. The most popular route is the Logoisk-Ugly-Shvaby bus route (to Zembin). But during the high season there are sometimes not enough places.

This place near Minsk can be called one of the most mushroom places. The continuous huge forest between Logoisk, Pleshchenitsy and Zembin stretches for many tens of kilometers. These forests are located in such a way that you can find a wide variety of mushrooms in them.

Vileyshchyna. Ilya village

Boletus, common chanterelle... The car route will be more comfortable. We drive to the village of Ilya from Minsk, focusing on the recreation center “Economist” (from the educational establishment “BSEU”). Here are the most mushroom places. You don’t even have to get to the Economist, because the forest in these places is very large.

Columns

In Stolbtsy, mushroom pickers will find many noble specimens of mushrooms (chanterelles, boletuses, boletuses, boletuses, autumn mushrooms). A reference point for the places where they gather can be called a tourist center called “Vysoky Bereg”. You can get here by personal transport, by bus, and by train. By car you will have to drive along the highway towards Brest, turning at Stolbtsy to the village of Nikolaevshchina. Buses and trains run in the Brest direction from Minsk. Stolbtsovshchina pleases the eye with its picturesque nature. In addition, it is the birthplace of Yakub Kolas.

Talc

This mushroom route is more suitable for those who like to walk, as it can take 5-20 kilometers. Mushroom pickers must be prepared physically and spiritually for such a road. By commuter train from Minsk you need to get to Talka station, in the direction of the train, go through the village, go through a small field, go into the forest, a minute summer cottages, a large field, follow the river to a small bridge, cross it to the other side, enter the forest... And you can start picking mushrooms.

If you're not sure, don't put the mushroom in your basket.

Of course, you should only eat mushrooms that you know well. Otherwise, it will cost you more. Is it scary to go alone and accidentally cut off a toadstool? There is a way out - “silent hunting”. In Belarus, Minsk hosts guests, which are located in picturesque forests. There are a lot of mushrooms there. The owner of the house negotiates a time with you in advance and becomes your companion in the difficult task of picking mushrooms. After long walks through the forest, in addition, you will have the opportunity to relax in the estate: soak in the bathhouse, enjoy delicious kebabs, cook fresh mushroom soup.

If you go into the forest alone, take with you everything you need so as not to get lost: mobile phone, compass, matches, knife, something for a snack. Be sure to tell your friends and family how long and where you went. This will make it possible to begin searching if you do not return at the appointed time.

Mushroom dishes are very tasty, but they are heavy. For example, young boletus mushrooms are much healthier than onions and carrots. When dried, they will be higher in calories than eggs and boiled sausage. But giving mushrooms to children under the age of seven is strictly not recommended. This is because their body contains an enzyme that breaks down mushroom protein. Naturally, everyone decides for themselves whether to look for their favorite mushrooms in the thickets or buy champignons in supermarkets... The choice is only yours.

According to the regional sanitary and epidemiological service, this year, excess levels of cesium-137 radionuclides were detected in samples of wild berries delivered for research by residents village Pustoy Osovets, ag. Dashkovka Mogilev district, the village of Dolzhanka and the village of Miloye, Klichevsky district and in samples of mushrooms from the village of Voronino, the village of Chechevichi, the village of Sledyuki, Bykhovsky district, village of Bovshevo, Mogilev district, village Gizhenka S, village Nov. Sloboda, village Lopatichi, village Khodorov, Slavgorod district, village Smolka, Chaussky district, village Veremeyki, village Ustye, Cherikovsky district, etc.

In some samples of mushrooms (after cooking), the content of radionuclides exceeded the permissible level by 1.5 or more times. The most disadvantaged forest areas of the following districts still remain: Slavgorodsky, Cherikovsky, Krasnopolsky, Klimovichsky, Belynichisky, Bykhovsky, Klichevsky, Mogilevsky, Chaussky.

It should be noted that, due to the specific properties of forests, there is an increased transfer of radionuclides from the soil to plants and mushrooms, so a decrease in radionuclides in forest mushrooms, berries, and game is not expected in the coming years. Regular consumption of forest products with a high content of radionuclides is one of the reasons for the increased content of radionuclides in the body of residents (up to 0.1% of those examined at the SHR installation), says the hygienist of the radiation hygiene department L.M. Shchemeleva.

According to the specialist, the radioactivity of mushrooms depends both on the place where they grow and on their type.

Mushrooms differ from each other in their ability to accumulate radioactive substances and can be divided into 4 groups:

  1. Batteries: bitter mushroom, ringed cap (chicken), svinushka, Polish mushroom, butterdish, yellow-brown moss mushroom. Picking these mushrooms is not recommended.
  2. Highly accumulative : milk mushrooms, pink trumpets, brilliant greens,
Russula. It is allowed to collect mushrooms of this group at a density
soil contamination up to 1 Ci/km 2 with mandatory radiometric
    control.
  3. Medium-accumulating: real chanterelle, row, white
    mushroom, boletus, boletus.
  4. Weakly accumulating: autumn honey fungus, variegated umbrella mushroom,
    pearl raincoat.

Of the forest berries, blueberries, cranberries, lingonberries, and blueberries have the greatest ability to accumulate radiocesium. Rowan berries and strawberries accumulate radiocesium somewhat less. The least contaminated berries are viburnum, raspberries, and blackberries.

When harvesting and processing wild berries and mushrooms, you need to know that:

  1. You cannot pick mushrooms and berries in places indicated by prohibition signs. The possibility of collecting mushrooms in a particular forest area should be clarified in advance with the forestry enterprise.
  2. Do not buy mushrooms and berries in unidentified places (on the roadsides), and if the purchase is made, be sure to check for radionuclide content.
  3. With the same density of soil contamination, the accumulation of cesium-137 in berries is greater in humid growing conditions than in dry ones. It is advisable to check all collected mushrooms and berries for radioactive contamination. Radiological laboratories have been established in each district at regional centers of hygiene and epidemiology and forestry enterprises. Research is carried out free of charge.
  4. And most importantly, follow the rules for processing mushrooms and berries, which allow reducing the concentration of radionuclides by 10 times or more.

Before cooking, collected mushrooms must be cleaned of adhering particles of forest litter, moss, and soil; For some mushrooms, it is necessary to remove the skin from the cap.

Reducing the content of radionuclides in mushrooms can be achieved by boiling them for 15-60 minutes in salt water with the addition of vinegar or citric acid and removing the broth every 15 minutes. With this treatment of russula, greens, rows and volushki for 30 minutes, the concentration of radiocesium is reduced by 2-10 times. A little more time (45 minutes) to reduce the content of radionuclides by 2-10 times is required for tubular mushrooms - boletus, boletus, Polish mushroom, boletus. Of course, the nutrient content in mushrooms decreases after prolonged boiling.

When drying mushrooms, the content of radionuclides in them does not decrease, so only “clean” mushrooms need to be dried.

Before consumption, the collected berries must be cleaned of adhering particles of forest litter, moss, soil and rinsed several times in running water.

Spontaneous shopping arcades near the Central Market in Mogilev appear in the early morning in the summer. Mushrooms and berries are the undisputed leaders here, writes Respublika. Having priced the product, I ask a question that is no less important for all buyers: “Is there a certificate stating that the products have passed radiation control?”

Photo: Svetlana Markova, “Respublika”

Pensioner Oksana Vlasenko offers both chanterelles and blueberries at once. A liter of both costs 3 rubles - a ruble more than last week. A woman hands over a blueberry inspection document.

“I collected chanterelles there, in the forest near the village of Shepelevichi, Kruglyansky district,” she assured. — And this territory is one of the cleanest in the region.”

I decided to take my word for it, as did other buyers. True, instead of going to the kitchen, I first decided to visit the Mogilev Regional Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health. To make sure for sure whether there is a risk of getting a portion of cesium along with the chanterelles or not.

For a resident of the Mogilev region, about a third of whose territory is contaminated with radionuclides, such fears are not in vain. In the radiation hygiene department of the regional Center for Health and Human Wellbeing, there was no queue of people wanting to check wild berries or mushrooms.

“This point has long been worked out - today in every region there are laboratories where radiometric studies can be done. Moreover, this service is free for people", - emphasized the head of the department Leonid Lipnitsky.

Laboratory assistant Galina Kastritsa First of all, I weighed my purchase: it turned out that there are only 250 grams of chanterelles in a liter jar! It is not difficult to calculate that a kilogram of them costs as much as 12 rubles. I won’t be mistaken if I say that buyers don’t think much about such arithmetic - is that why measuring containers are so much more popular among sellers than scales?

But this is an economic component, and I am more concerned about the safety of the forest delicacy. Fortunately, the purchased volume was enough to check, and the chanterelles moved into a special container for 15 minutes. As a result, the verdict was made: you can eat them. The permissible level of 370 bacquerels per kilogram in these mushrooms turned out to be almost ten times less.

“According to statistics, approximately a quarter of the mushrooms and berries collected in the Mogilev region contain excess radionuclides,” noted Leonid Lipnitsky. “The most disadvantaged in this regard are still Cherikovsky, Krasnopolsky, Klimovichsky, Bykhovsky and some other districts of the Mogilev region.”

In such a device, the gifts of the forest are tested. Photo: Svetlana Markova, “Respublika”

In June-July of this year, 38 samples of wild plants made by the regional and Mogilev zonal centers of the Central State Geology and Health Center turned out to be “dirty.” At the same time, blueberries collected, for example, in the vicinity of the village of Dalenshchina, Krichevsky district, acceptable standards radionuclides of cesium-137 exceeded twice, near the agricultural town of Dashkovka, Mogilev region - three times, and in the forests of the village of Berezovka, Slavgorod region - generally 16 (!) times.

In forest soils, due to their specificity, the radiation level has not changed significantly over the 30 post-Chernobyl years. So we can’t yet expect that mushrooms and berries will no longer accumulate radionuclides.

“In places that are dangerous in this regard, forestry enterprises install special warning signs, which in no case should be ignored,” says Lipnitsky. Epidemiologists also remind: buying mushrooms and berries in spontaneous shopping arcades, from the ground, and even without documentary evidence of a “radiation” test, is very risky. Checking with a dosimeter - and this is often offered to be carried out on the spot by sellers on the side of the highways - is also a simple deception. The device will show only the background level of radiation, and not the true one, that is, radionuclides that have absorbed the same blueberries or chanterelles.

Experts, in addition, advise boiling the mushrooms in salted water with vinegar for about an hour before cooking, periodically skimming off the foam. Such an operation, they say, will significantly reduce the concentration of radionuclides.
