Are puffed up lips in fashion now? Glamor girls now have a new trend - lip reduction

If you have been planning to increase your lips with fillers for a long time, but did not dare, do not rush to sign up for injections with a beautician. Several celebrities at once set a new trend: only natural contours, only moderation.

Actress Megan Fox

The era and Kim Kardashian with their hyperpumped mouths is coming to an end: the natural outlines of the lips are returning to fashion. And if in the era of zero all glamorous lionesses wanted plump “dumplings” for themselves, then 17 years later, addictions have changed.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, demand for lip augmentation doubled from 2000 to 2016. But if a couple of years ago girls enlarged their lips, now they are reducing them.

By the way, the trend did not originate in Los Angeles, but in Asia, where subtle facial features speak of the nobility of origin. And the actresses of the first echelon in the face, Megan Fox and Natalie Portman happily picked it up, and now the tabloids have a new entertainment: to publish photos of the stars “before” with full lips and “after” with strictly pursed lips.

Actress Jennifer Aniston

If you're going to follow their example, keep in mind: lip reduction surgery, or reduction cheiloplasty, is performed under anesthesia and lasts about 30 minutes. First, the skin is removed from the lips and sutured to create a new line. The incision is made along the border separating the outer part of the lip and the mucosa.

There are no traces of surgical intervention, and the lips look thinner and more natural. For restoration lay from 2 to 7 days, for expenses - from 30 to 50 thousand rubles.

Actress Angelina Jolie

“First of all, surgical cheiloplasty allows you to deal with congenital and acquired defects that cannot be eliminated with the help of cosmetic procedures. For example, disproportionate or overly plump lips that change facial expressions, as well as the consequences of burns, injuries and scars, ”says plastic surgeon Maxim Nesterenko. He also notes that with cheiloplasty, a repeated procedure is mandatory: over time, the outlines of the lips may change slightly.

“One hundred percent result can be achieved only with the help of surgical intervention,” Nesterenko believes. - Therefore, if you have long wanted to change the shape of your lips - it's worth a try. But if this is just a tribute to fashion, it is better to wait until the trends change.”

According to Maria Merekina, it is much easier to eliminate the consequences of using a preparation based on hyaluronic acid than a biopolymer gel, because it does not require surgical intervention - it is enough to inject a hyaluronidase preparation and split the filler. Keep this in mind when you look at the updated "tuning" of celebrities living on the other side of the ocean, and decide: I want to look the same!

Fashion affects not only the length of skirts and hair color. Her trends are subject to the standards of beauty. The languid sophistication of the 20s, the emphasized femininity of the 50s or the bright madness of the eighties - looking at the images of past decades is incredibly interesting. And it’s even more exciting to notice how women’s faces were transformed. And since lips are considered the most expressive part of the appearance of beauties of all times and peoples, let's see how their appearance changed depending on fashion trends:

1900s

In 1909, the cosmetic empire of Elizabeth Arden was founded - and the era of make-up began. Mouth thanks to lipstick looked bright and expressive. After a series of successful and not so successful experiments, the trend turned out to be the sensual form in the form of Cupid's bow - it was the "angelic lips" that were called in those days the most fashionable make-up option.

1920s

During these years, the “lips of an angel” were replaced by a “mouth-flower” - the upper lip was drawn in the form of a rose petal, with a sharp break in the middle and semicircles clearly defined to the corners. Such a mouth was also called "bird's" - by connecting a little imagination in it you can really see the silhouette of the wings of a flying bird.

1940s

The difficult wartime made its own adjustments to the female images. In contrast to the hardships and harsh everyday life, the fair sex tried to look as elegant and sophisticated as possible. Full lips with a beautiful curve have reached the peak of fashion. All their areas were already painted over, and pencils, which by this time were produced by all cosmetic companies without exception, helped to visually increase the size.

1950s

Plump lips remained relevant, but going beyond their contour became a sign of bad taste. The shape became more natural, only the middle of the upper lip was made more pointed. And fashionistas decided to draw attention to their mouths with the help of rich shades of lipsticks - red, pink, shining.

1960s

In an era when the whole world went crazy because of mascara, or rather because of Twiggy's eye makeup, lips began to play a secondary role. They again became natural and pale. But the volume remained in price: all the sex symbols of that time can boast of rather plump lips, which looked great even without bright lipstick.

1970s

There was a lot of everything in the 80s - hair, makeup, bright colors. And the lips were to match - a clear shape, rich shade, with an intensely traced contour. If there was not enough natural volume, pencils were used to increase the outlines of the mouth, glosses and bright colors.

1990s

The riot of the eighties was replaced by the era of supermodels, and the luxurious Naomi Campbell with no less luxurious lips appeared on the covers of the gloss. Women immediately picked up the fashion for a plump, sensual mouth: the contour of the lips became clear, going beyond the natural outlines. At the same time, the first fillers appeared - they were mostly gels made from non-absorbable biopolymers, and after a few years, many fashionistas greatly regretted their choice.

2000s

A decade of glamor spawned a fashion for a luxurious, well-groomed look - a tan, thick long hair and, of course, a beautifully contoured sensual mouth. Women are increasingly resorting to lip contouring: thanks to the widespread use of hyaluronic fillers, this procedure has become absolutely safe. And Pamela Anderson became the sex symbol of the era, convincingly demonstrating to the world all the wonders of plastic surgery and cosmetology.

Plump lips have been considered the standard of beauty for several years. Representatives of the weaker sex used injections, cosmetics and lipsticks, special devices to give volume to their lips.

Photos of girls with pouted lips on social networks have not surprised anyone for a long time, even little girls have learned to depict plump lips. But fashion tends to change. Not so long ago, a new trend began to spread from Asia around the world - reduction or suturing of the lips.

The thin and curved line of the upper lip in Asian women is considered the standard of beauty. Lip reduction surgery is performed under local anesthesia and takes an average of 30 minutes.

To change the size and shape of the lips, a plastic surgeon makes special sutures, which are subsequently absorbed or removed manually. The recovery process takes no more than 7 days. After repair, the sutures dissolve and become invisible. During this period, the patient is recommended to consume liquid food.

The average cost of a lip augmentation injection is $1,500; suturing can cost a patient up to $3,000. The lip reduction procedure does not require renewal, injection procedures for enlargement must be repeated periodically.

Whether lip closure becomes more popular than augmentation, only time will tell.

According to experts, since the appearance of the possibility of reducing and reshaping the lips, the popularity of the procedure for creating plump lips has decreased. It remains to be seen whether the new trend will become as popular as plump lips, or natural beauty will return to fashion.

Today, it's almost impossible to scroll through Instagram without seeing a picture of a blogger or celebrity doing lip augmentation. According to data compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, lip augmentation requests increased by 50 percent between 2000 and 2016.

However, as NewBeauty reports, there have been new trends on social media in terms of lip resizing lately. One of them is lip reduction. According to New York plastic surgeon Dr. Melissa Doft, who specializes in cosmetic plastic surgery, lip reduction procedures tend to be more popular in Asian countries.

As Dr. Doft explains, the procedure involves "special skin removal from the lips" and the use of stitches to create a new lip line. The result is a smaller, thinner outline.

Although lip reduction is performed as an outpatient procedure, remember that it is an operation. Patients are usually given local anesthesia during the procedure, which takes 15–30 minutes per lip depending on the amount of tissue removed, and the stitches are left in place for one week, after which they are dissolved or manually removed. "The pain," says Dr. Doft, "is tolerable, but patients are encouraged to eat liquid foods until the swelling subsides," which can take anywhere from a few days to a week.

While fillers can cost anywhere from $500 to $2,000 (per syringe), lip reduction surgery costs $1,000 to $3,000 on average, according to DocShop. Prices fluctuate depending on where you live: in New York, for example, a similar operation can cost upwards of $7,000. However, it is a permanent procedure that does not require constant renewal, unlike injections, which usually begin to dissolve within a year (and therefore require repeated injections).

Instagram already has over 5,000 photos tagged with #lipreduction (lip reduction). However, at least in the US, lip augmentation remains a more frequent procedure and this is not likely to change in the near future. Below you can see what the procedure looks like (but be careful - some of these photos may scare you).

The new trend has caused fierce controversy in the network. Many are perplexed why the owners of plump lips make such sacrifices. But there were also supporters of a nightmarish trend.

Just yesterday, girls dreamed of plump lips like Angelina Jolie, and now they are ready to go under the knife to reduce their size!

Thank God, this procedure has gained great popularity so far only in Asia. But that's for now. Judging by the number of photos on Instagram, the fashion for lip stitching is confidently striding towards Europe.

If you tell more about the operation, then it would seem that there is nothing complicated and frightening in it. Under anesthesia, the lip (usually the upper lip is corrected) is cut in half, excess skin is removed and stitched together. The procedure lasts about half an hour, and after a couple of weeks, the stitches can be removed. The result is a completely new shape of the lips. The cost of an exotic correction varies from $1,000.

Some girls willingly share shocking pictures on their pages, talk about the advantages of this operation. Like, lip augmentation involves an annual visit to the doctor (repeated injections and corrections), and suturing is a one-time trip. The pioneers also share their opinion about the rehabilitation period: after the operation, a slight swelling persists for some time, you can only eat soft food so as not to strain your lips, smile less and keep your mouth closed.

Agree, a rather unexpected and frightening trend. We decided to find out what other strange plastic surgeries people are ready to go for in pursuit of youth, beauty and fashion.

Eye implants

No matter how scary it may sound, this operation cannot be called a whim and a desire to make the image more attractive. People with a partial or complete absence of the iris resort to a similar procedure. And, of course, an eye implant does not mean that a new artificial one is inserted into a person. This applies only to the iris. But soon the procedure ceased to be medical in nature, and strings of people dissatisfied with the color of their eyes reached out to the surgeons.

elven ears

The most popular operation among fans of "Star Trek" and the "Lord of the Rings" saga. The cartilage of the upper part of the ear is sharpened (everything is simply ground off) and stitches are applied. The worst thing is not the operation itself, but the fact that normal professional surgeons do not undertake such work. And fans have to look for underground butcher doctors, and their work clearly does not meet quality standards. Infections, gangrene, amputation... You can not list further.

snake language

A strange operation, which is usually done out of youth and stupidity. Usually people are driven by a stupid desire to scare friends. But the experimenters themselves should still be afraid - a similar procedure is done in underground conditions, in some tattoo or piercing parlors. By the way, the perfect snake tongue may not work the first time - the tissues grow together quickly, and you have to cut it again.

Muscle Implantation

The perfect solution for the lazy and rich. Why waste energy in the gym, eat right and take care of your health, when you can, roughly speaking, stick silicone implants all over your body - and voila! A jock or phytonyashka is ready! Implants can be placed in the chest, under the calf muscles, thighs and buttocks. Few people will be surprised by implants in the buttocks now, but they say that even Arnold Schwarzenegger himself broke up with breast implants not so long ago!

What does the psychologist think?

We learned from the psychologist, abundance consultant Polina Ahrens, what makes people go for such drastic changes in their appearance.

“The body is a tool unique in its functionality, given to us for undivided use. We can take care of him, love him, develop him or hate him, mock him, hurt him, starve him or fill him with low-quality food, and this will be our conscious choice. Modern technologies give us an unlimited opportunity for “tuning”, realizing a kind of dream of power through improving the properties of the body. The question of the normality of those who go for extreme tuning - elven ears, snake tongues and subcutaneous horn implants - is very controversial and ambiguous, the border between the norm and deviation is very arbitrary. In our society, there are certain standards of beauty, and no one is surprised by operations to correct the shape of the nose, increase lips and breasts, since these manipulations fully fit into our average social idea of beauty. It is obvious that attempts to radically and non-standardly change one's appearance are due to a distortion of the image of oneself, due to an internal discrepancy between self-consciousness and the external picture. It cannot be said that something that goes beyond the standards accepted in our society unequivocally speaks of the mental problems of an individual. It is impossible to assess the level of normality of a person based on his approach to bodily manipulation. Much more important is what pushes him to radical experiments and what archetypes of his personality the individual reflects through external tuning. The search for deep harmony with one's inner mirror lies within the conventional norm, while the need for the manifestation of deep pain and complexes in external signs may indicate destructive behavioral motives.
